First look at "When We Rise" - miniseries on the gay rights movement

Recommended Posts

Penned by Dustin Lance Black (“Milk“), executive produced by Gus Van Sant(who also directed the two-hour series premiere), and starring Guy Pearce, Mary-Louise Parker, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael Kenneth Williams, David Hyde Pierce, and many more, the show will chronicle the journey of gay rights activism starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969. Here’s the official synopsis:

“When We Rise” chronicles the personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today. The period piece tells the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969.

“When We Rise” will debut in February on ABC.
