OMG

I searched online (his name is given in the original post) and it linked to his Tumblr and in a recent shirtless picture, he used a hashtag #VENUS, which followed hashtags #ME and #VIRGINITY.

This actually seems a lot less like art and more like sensationalism IMO. I know some people might say it's only getting heat because it's gay sex, but I can't see people being gung-ho even if it were traditional hetero sex. There's no real need to broadcast you losing your virginity to the world though, and I don't think you doing it live for an audience elevates it from the level of watching porn. It's basically porn live; that's not art to me - it's not going to change the world, it's not going to mean anything to anyone and it's not going to show people anything, it's just going to get people mad at you. Plus he says he's going to lose the stigma around virginity but he's creating MORE stigma for himself by doing this.

I don't really agree that it "cheapens our sexual interactions", because sex is your personal connection with someone else and no one can change what that means for you. I think that this has the potential to setback the gay community which is already viewed as being promiscuous - it shouldn't since it's one person's choice, but people like to generalize.

I agree that this may be negative for the public's image of gays, but i wouldn't say it's porn. Pornography is specifically for sexual arousal; there is no artistic goal, it doesn't attempt to make you think of anything beyond getting off. This is sexual in content, yes, but its goal isn't about arousing the critics or those in the class, but rather make them think about the exposition of a private and pivotal moment in one's sexual life. Whether or not this makes a difference I don't know... I think as a concept it's interesting but perhaps the execution is what will ultimately determine its success as a performance art piece; if it is too explicit it can be written off as pornography like you said, but if it's tastefully done without exposing too much of the goodies then it could be more of a visceral experience where the audience experiences the moment with them.
