Christina Aguilera - Lotus; album review
2 reviewers, Luke and Jordan. Luke is a casual Christina fan and Jordan is a stan so we have varied opinions on XTina.
Any fans of the album here? She seems to get a bit of stick but I'm not sure why.
1) Lotus Intro
(C.Aguilera, D.Abernathy, C.Pilay, A.Grant)
Lotus intro (audio)
OK, I don’t really have much to say for the intro. The start is very intriguing and the whole arrangement of the song makes it perfect for an intro, it keeps the listener interested with lyrics such as “This is the beginning” and “rebirth” which indicate a new era for Aguilera. So far it sounds promising for the rest of the album and even though it is around 3 minutes it doesn’t outstay its welcome. My only gripe is how pretentious it makes Christina sound when she starts talking nearer the end of the song, it’s meaningful for her – but not me. 6/10
This starts with a nice sound and it’s quite gripping! I find that this song has elements of ‘Bionic’ in it but being slightly more relaxed. Overall, it’s not bad, and does its job which is getting you into the album. 5/10
2) Army of Me
(C.Aguilera, J.Hartman, D.Glass, P.Bently)

Instantly this song shouts “Single Material” the lyrics Aguilera sings are so empowering “I’ve found my second skin” and it suits her powerhouse vocals perfectly. The lyrics “one of me’s a fighter” is a great homage to ‘Fighter’ and has elements of an old school Aguilera. With that being said, half way into the song you are left feeling that the song does actually seem a bit generic and maybe more suited to someone like Katy Perry? It’s still a great up beat track from Aguilera nevertheless. 7.5/10
This is a great, uplifting track – I can see myself belting it out in the car. I find that her vocals are very strong and consistent throughout. I really like it. 7/10
3) Red Hot Kinda Love
(C.Aguilera, L.Secon, O.Waithe)
Red Hot Kinda Love (Audio)
From the get go, this track has a edgy/funky sound to it with a brilliant and catchy hook! However, I do find the music arrangement very messy, there are far too many sounds going on. In that respect, the song is quite reminiscent to Gwen Stefani in ‘Wind It Up’. I can see this being played all summer long, definitely a summer single. 7/10
I am loving this sound! This is that typical shallow trashy pop song on the album that everyone loves; no emotion or meaning, just pure smiley pop! #SoFun. 7/10
4) Make the World Move
(A.Grant, M.Del Rio, C.Pillay, J.Dezuzio, D.Abernathy, A.Trovajoli)
Make the World move (Audio)
It becomes exceedingly obvious very quickly that this has more of a ‘Cee-Lo sound’ to it rather than that of Aguilera. However, The only time I can really hear Cee-Lo is on the hook of “move move” and faintly behind Aguilera in the chorus, which is no fault of his own seeing how strong Aguilera’s voice is. The chorus did start to get a bit annoying, annd a bit much, but it was a nice ride. 5/10
I’m sensing a theme emerging. This track has the same sound as the rest of the album which is nice to hear. I like the message she is portraying with the lyrics too. I agree with Luke though, Cee Lo Green sounds like Christina’s backing singer. Overall the track is very middle of the road. 5/10
5) Your Body
(M.Martin, Shellback, S.Kotecha, T.Amber)
Your Body (Video)
This track flows brilliantly from the previous. The intro is great, and it builds perfectly into the first verse. The difference between this song and the others so far show that simplicity works, there isn’t as much music in the background compared to the last track and it is beneficial. the chorus is very strong and punchy – I just wish the lyrics were changed a bit, “All I wanna do is love your body” is repeated a bit too much – it could be seen as a bit monotonous, but I think the build in the chorus saves it. 8/10
Yes Christina! This track flows well from the previous track, it has a very punchy chorus, a great catchy tune and quite generally… pop at its finest! I love her vocal overlay just after the first chorus. I imagine that Europeans would love this sound too. This definitely screams “Lead Single”, I do feel it is a bit of a trend chaser but I think it was needed for her career at this point. 9/10
6) Let There Be Love
(M.Martin, Shellback, S.Kotecha, B.McKee, O.Goldstein, O.Holter, J.Erixon)
Let There Be Love (Video)
Wow. I want more of this from Aguilera! The heavy dance chorus is great and shows off just how strong her voice is, just when you think the song couldn’t get better, she brings out another key and lifts the song even higher! The builds in the background through the middle 8 are great and gel well with her adlibs. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this. 10/10
As soon as the song starts, I can feel an Ariana Grande / Britney Spears vibe. This track also screams single material and I can see the similarities from the previous track too – I do however see this as quite a generic pop song. 6/10
