Carnage Park (Movie Review)
Okay so, if you havent caught the gist of my blog its pretty much horror/thrillers only :/ But i do appreciate many many genres, but for now ill fill you in on movies you might see at redbox or on demand and desperately want to know if its worth your money or computer space for streaming so im here to help you on this one.
This movie has been getting some CRAZY rep from film festivals and has finally been released on Demand. I decided to check it out and to my surprise, it was crazy fun.
The movie is basically about these two hill billy douche bags that rob a bank and kidnap this girl as a hostage. The entire movie is in the desert and has this orange sunset tint to it which kind of threw me off but what drew me in was the SUSPENSE. Thats right folks, this is a gripping thriller with great tension. As soon as the kidnapped victim is released from the trunk of the car and forced to sit passenger seat with her kidnappers we know shit is about to go down
To make matters worse, there is a gas mask wearing psychopath with a sniper killing anyone who trespasses his area, and you guessed it our kidnappers happen to go there.
What then happens is a cat and mouse game between the girl and the sniper. The girl is the whole savior of this film, Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism) NAILS her role, their isn't alot of talking going on but her expressions and movements make the feel of the movie SO realistic because she was able to convey what she was feeling and thinking through her movement, which i thought was pretty cool She also DRAGS a bankteller to FILTH when he denies her loan, which really is the high point of her acting. This chick is a balls to the wall survivalist, she is handcuffed to a dead body in one scene and her escape method includes cutting the corpse's hand off with a rock. Yeah, the movie is pretty gory too, not for the faint of heart
But thats also what i loved about it, the effects were very realistic and the situations were logical. Now to the bad parts
1. I dont know whose idea it was to have all these flashy images inbetween the film but they were not artsy at all in fact, it makes the movie almost feel B movie amateur when it clearly is not. Theres like cuts of a strobe light and the gas mask killer and this really loud music and it just didnt work for me sorry
2. The acting (besides the lead actress) is cringe worthy, the criminals in the beginning are I wouldnt be scared of them at all.
3. The ending was so dark i didnt know what was going on I feel like it could have been just as gut wrentching and suspensful if it was a little lighter.
Overall, its a fun exploitation popcorn flick about this girl going through endless violence and chases to get home. If you're a horror fan like me you'll appreciate it for what it is, an average cat and mouse thriller
