Punk Thriller Green Room avaliable on DVD/Bluray/Digital July 12th!
I dedicate this blog post to the late Anton Yelchin, who was the star of this film. Wow, just wow. This movie has got to be my favorite movie of this decade of not all time. I don't know why i loved it so much but I did, and apparently so did critics. The movie is certified FRESH on Rottentomatoes with a whopping 98 percent, and an impressive 7.3 on IMDB.
Also this movie fits music forums perfectly because it focuses on a band
The movie is heavily punk inspired, if you're into that sort of thing, great. if you're not, still great. Theres this band looking for gigs to make money, they have a drummer, 2 guitarists and a singer. They are all likable young adults from the get go, they're out living their dream and living the punk life. But all the fun comes to an end when they accidentally witness a murder at one of their gigs. The film never tries too hard to be punk and in your face, it just is. But its also beautiful, theres lots of slow motion scenes like the ones in Drive, where its just capturing the mood of the scene and using dreamy music. Now lets get to the chase, I want you all to see this movie!
The band members lock themselves in their chill out room (the green room) and refuse to open the door to ANYONE. The club owner insists they are safe to come out, but they dont believe it. To make matters worse, the club owner has a group full of angry Skinheads on his side, ready to cut the band members up into pieces. The whole movie is just an edge of your seat thriller. The situations they get in are so scary it almost gives you anxiety because you dont know what the hell they are going to do. Theyre in that room, cornered by Neo Nazis holding firearms and attack dogs. Do they risk escaping or hold off until help arrives?
The violence is SO realistic its almost disgusting, and i dont easily get grossed out by films. But please, check out this movie if youre into the punk aesthetic, if you like action films, thriller films, horror films, dark comedies, whatever. You will love the characters and setting if you decide to see it. Imogeen poots steals the show here, she plays a careless concert attendee that is caught up in the mix and forced to fight for her life as well. Avoid seeing all the trailers for this movie because it gives alot away. But you can check out this one below
