I haven't seen the show and I like the movie, but I'm sure they're very different.

This is the show?: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_World_(TV_series) I hadn't heard of it, but apparently it's based on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel of the same name, which was definitely a big influence on Crichton when writing JP and was the namesake of his second novel, so they actually are sort of related.

Yeah, me too. Like I said earlier, I love Coraline, and that's a bit of a twist on Alice in Wonderland. I actually found that movie pretty scary, and I was 13 when I saw it! I actually think it would be pretty terrifying to a younger kid - few things would be scarier than a slightly inverted version of your parent with evil intentions. And it's just vague enough about the Other Mother's origins to have that inherent mysterious creepiness.

That’s it! It’s been over a decade since I watched it, but I would always watch it every morning before school. I had never known it was based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s work, that’s pretty wild.

Coraline is an all time fave of mine too. I also saw it in theaters, and I think I was 12 at the time? I sometimes watch videos theorizing on the film and its characters because there’s so many details you can miss or not even realize. I plan on reading the book eventually, which I’ve heard is even creepier, so I look forward to that.

I haven't read The Lost World, but I did read a decent amount of ACD's Sherlock Holmes material when I was younger. Oddly haven't seen many Sherlock movies, just the first Robert Downey Jr. movie and Young Sherlock Holmes, which is sorta a fan fiction deal. I'd also like to see The Seven Per-Cent Solution and Peter Cushing's The Hound of the Baskervilles.

I think the novel is supposed to be very similar, the main difference being that the movie added Wybie just so Coraline would have someone to talk to in the real world.

I was happy to see two movies I actually liked today (Venom and ASIB) after a pretty lame bunch before that rip2 Happytime Murders and THWACIIW were both quite mediocre and The Predator was almost offensively poor.

What did you think of Split? I was going to watch that tonight

I liked it, McAvoy kinda makes the film but I also thought Anya Taylor-Joy did well in her role, and I'm glad that

Spoiler

she'll be back in Glass.

What'd you think of it?

They were all really great, I kinda loved the older lady.

But, I feel like the movie had a lot of holes and like WTF moments, but overall really good! Glad that they are making another :)

Nope. I haven't heard of that, would you recommend?

Yeah, it's by the same director as Split and takes place in the same fictional universe. Glass will basically be a showdown between Kevin Wendell Crumb and Bruce Willis' character.

Unfortunately no, I have not been able to catch the new Halloween film yet. I wanted to go last Friday and then on Monday, but it didn't work out for me on either of those days. Hopefully I'll be able to make it on Thursday or Friday this week.

@Dan so I did finally go to see Halloween (and Overlord, incidentally) yesterday...I was kinda disappointed. It wasn't bad or anything, and I really like the take on Laurie Strode 40 years later, but overall it isn't as atmospheric as the original movie nor is Myers the wraith-like, creepy figure he was - he's pretty much straight up a superhuman beast like he is in every other sequel. I did love

Spoiler

the nod to Myers' disappearance in the original movie, though, with Laurie doing the same thing - that was clever.

@Dan did you like Glass? It seems to be a bit divisive but overall I think pretty highly of it, and I'm glad for its financial success. Shyamalan might have some misses, but overall he's a really interesting filmmaker.

I liked it waaaaay more than the reviews were painting it. Like it’s definitely not one of my favorites but I was happy with it and enjoyed it the whole way through. I liked the twists it had too, but the end just seemed really anticlimactic and kinda dumb in my opinion.. but maybe that was the point oprah12

Also I’ve never loved Shymalan since he ruined Avatar the last air bender cry4

I can see what people are talking about, with the anti-climax,

Spoiler

particularly when the main hero drowns in a puddle of water

but yes, I do think the intention was to subvert expectations. To have them

Spoiler

make it to the tower

would be a different movie. I think he's carved out a great and unique little trilogy.

I've never seen it sia2 I have also never seen the show sia2 I've seen every other movie he's done minus his little known debut Praying with Anger and Wide Awake though. I have very strong positive and negative opinions on various films of his though dead2 Unbreakable's my favorite and Signs is the one I really hate.

Yeah, the first spoiler you posted was one of the things that disappointed me the most, and that it was an action done by a nameless character. But still, I adored the movie up until that point.

Oh my god, it’s the biggest train wreck I’ve ever seen. The show is my favorite show of all time, I have it on DVD and have watched it dozens of times through because I think the animation, character development and storyline are some of the most well-written pieces of television ever, but Shymalan made a live action movie and ruinedddd it cry8

@Dennis Reynolds Do you plan on seeing Us or the new Pet Semetary? Also, I thought Greta looked kind of good :D  I want to see all 3.

I definitely want to see Us, I actually planned on seeing it last weekend but that didn't really work out and I ended up seeing an early screening of Shazam instead. Hopefully I'll see it in a week or two.

Pet Sematary looks all right, and John Lithgow's presence raises my anticipation. I'm not much of a fan of the 1980s adaptation but this one looks better. I'm sure I'll see it, yeah.

Greta I hadn't heard of up until now. Sounds OK.

YEah I definitely agree with you, Us is a must. The 1980 version of Pet Sematary was OK... only memorable scene was the kid getting run over fall2

And you should watch the trailer for Greta if you get a chance, it actually looks interesting and I love the more "realistic" horror-thriller stories like that.

I remember that scene but for all the wrong reasons dead2 the staging, the father's acting...ugh.

I'll check it out later.

As sad as it was supposed to be, I couldn't find it anything but funny in how badly it was done fall1
