I knew about Tori Amos before 2017. I had listened to her albums Little Earthquakes and From The Choirgirl Hotel, which are two of my favorite albums... ever. But thanks to @Hylia and @Vulnicura. I dove into the rest of her discography. I still have yet to listen to Gold Dust or Strange Little Girls, but I've listened to every single one of her other studio albums now, and last night we listened to her Christmas album too (thanks @Aidan. for that thread).
I also knew about Bjork before 2017. Back when Spotify was first starting out and not at all the giant it is now, I asked my alternative friend for music recs so I could expand my music taste. Amoung others he recommended me Tori Amos, Liz Phair, and Bjork. He recommended me Post and Debut. Well, once again, Spotify wasn't a giant back then YET. So it didn't have Post and Debut - it only had Post Live. I listened to Post Live and I liked it, but not enough to get addicted to it. Fastforward 6 years to now, on FOTP, when those same people mentioned above (Hylia and Vulnicura) strongly hint that I should give her a chance again. So I do. I've so far listened to Post, Debut, and Homogenic, and I've loved every single one. So even though I TECHNICALLY listened to "Post Live" in 2011, I still count "Post" and its songs as a 2017 discovery.
As for Kehlani, I did NOT know about her before 2017. But thanks to one of my Twitter friends named Anita, as well as @QUINN and Hylia, I dove into her work this year - starting with her album released in January, SweetSexySavage. Obviously that album isn't on this list because it came out in 2017, BUT I also dove into Cloud 19 and You Should Be Here (her two pre-2017 mixtapes). And I am so glad I did. And then as you all should know by now, I later got to meet her. She is the sweetest girl ever and I'm so glad I discovered her in 2017.
Favorite albums/songs/etc. that were released in 2017 will be made in a separate blog post, probably in a few weeks.
