  4. Lemonade - Songs just fit and work together in a very clear narrative while also all having a life of their own in their completely different genres. Absolutely no skips. The visual only elevates it. Grief, anger, sadness, hope, trauma, love. All explored through the lens of the black experience in the USA. Noone but Her could've pulled off such a complex and nuanced body of work. In the words of one Hattie White at her 90th birthday party: I had my ups and downs, but I always find the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made Lemonade Ray Of Light - I personaly

  6. Welcome to Color Palette! Inspired (and totally not stolen) by FOTP's Next Top Model (which has been on hold for quite some time, mind you @Dani K. ) and also a game that I found while lurking on ATRL, every week, contestants will submit a photo or GIF of their chosen celeb that matches the theme of the round. Themes can range from a color, material, brand, aesthetic, occasion, and any other unexpected concepts that may pop up at some point in the season. Since this is a test season (and also the first time I'm hosting an ACTUAL game for once), I'll allow around 5-10ish

  8. Ariana - Thank U, Next "And sorry if I say sorry way too much.." Thank U, Next is the album where Ariana finally finds her sound and voice. From the production to the lyrics to the aesthetics and to the themes, everything about the album is authentically and honestly 100% her. Taylor - Folklore "A dwindling, mercurial high, a drug that only worked the first few hundred times." Reputation is my favorite album from, but Folklore is arguably her best. It's the perfect grand finale of everything she's done before -- everything that she's acquired, learned and perfected throughou

  11. I can't be the only person that think positions feels so average. Not the music, it's just fine in my eyes (it could've been a lot worse). I'm referring to how Ariana is handling the era. She released the album a week after the single then completely abandoned it in favor of the average at best 34+35, giving the song a boring video and unnecessary remix. She then proceeded to leave the era on auto pilot for a couple months then "released" pov as a single (she really just sent it to radio) months after the hype around the song died out. Given that we're still in a pandemic, I didn't expect some

  12. Since I honestly love seeing you guys' opinions on this sort of thing, in light of what I said about Stripped and Blackout, I decided to just... make a thread about it. Shade fully welcome here. I'll start. Prince's best album is Sign O The Times because it was Prince at his peak artistry. While Prince + The Revolution are the most remembered eras of him, SOTT showed how much of a tour de force Prince truly was as an almost entirely one man show, and every single facet of what made Prince himself is on full display. The incredible compositions, the genre-bending arrangements, hi

Results: Don’t Stop the Music - 45 Wait Your Turn - 29 What Now - 28 After trimming groups to pair of songs after two weeks of ranking, it is time to decide which singles will become finalists and compete in the final Tournament week. Hopefully, this is about to be equally exciting watching it unfold like these past weeks. Pick one single to proceed to the finals.

  14. Deserved btw. Viral hits like these are increasingly rare nowadays, especially in-between all the random #1 debuts There have been 16 No. 1 debuts since the beginning of last year, but this song, along with Drivers License, WAP and maybe Cardigan + ROM are the only ones that felt like a 'real' #1 debut.

  18. Jessica Simpson - In This Skin, the ballads are so good, her studio voice is better than 13/14 of the faves, I typed what I typed. Britney - Blackout, no bad songs. Xtina - Debut It's well produced, her vocals are controlled and it gives me tons of nostalgia. I grew up listening to GIAB, WAGW and COOB. Kylie - Body Language, it sounds the most unique and different from her other albums. Slow aged like wine. Taylor - reputation, that album made me a stan. Amy Winehouse - Back To Black obviously Avril - Let Go, nostalgia I'm With You is a masterpiece, and Anyt

  27. Okay I have a lot to say on this so I'm gonna spoiler it bc I know most people won't care KLJBKHLNK OT: The whole Positions era has been Ariana on autopilot. The visuals, the music, all of it has been her going through the motions lowkey. And on the one hand I get it, she's been going non-stop and she's gotten herself to a point where she doesn't really need to do that much work in order to reap benefits. But, I also think that's a sign she needs to slow down. A good break needs to come, she's starting to really hit a creative wall. sweetener, tun, and positions all came in a rid

  29. And then we can make sure that the new version will be counted as one unit with the previous one because, surprise, it's gonna be a deluxe/anniversary situation where we still have the original album in disc one and the updated version plus newly added extra songs in disc two. Therefore it can finally get a certification update to be diamond! Rather than remake/rerecord Bionic I would rather her make another electronica album that is more experimental in the vein of Birds of Prey and Monday Morning. Remaking Bionic will just be outdated at this point. About your Lotus dream...why

I would put Light Up The Sky as the lead Debut & Stripped, I would love to hear what her mature vocals would sound like on them.

  35. Ariana - Sweetener - Controversial as this may be (for some reason ), I enjoyed this album. She felt like she was truly making the music she wanted to make and I can tell she enjoyed creating it. Plus the album has some of the best songs she's ever recorded like GIAW, NTLTC, GNAG, etc. Also, let not act like the album wasn't the catalyst for her pop dominance. Rihanna - Anti - Fuck Rated R (Not really lol). I mean Rated R is good but Anti is next level. Anti is a masterpiece is every sense of the word. It's a beautiful body of work that explores a number of themes and explores so many ge

  37. I did flip flop between them for a while (esp since WYWF? is in my Top 5 Gwen songs), but when making the list I decided that the way I interpret 'first big hit' would be US-centric so the songs would be more recognizable. WYWF? was somewhat a local hit in (some of) Europe but was a non-event in the US (peaked at #47) in the end, I couldn't fully justify using it as Gwen's song. But as per usual, people are free to switch out the songs on the list if they want. Justice for WYWF truly. It's the song that got me into her 2008 me discovering it and having the time of my li

That Instagram post was not the first time he'd mentioned being a fan of her, but her interaction with it that one time (which still somehow is interpreted as her throwing shade when her following him pretty much proves it was all in good fun but that's another story) kinda made it blow up.

  40. The amount of taste on display here, and your descriptions are so on point with the emotions and feelings they evoke (in fact I feel the same way about all these albums). The only one I could see some disagreement with is Impossible Princess, even though it is probably the most personal of them all. I did not enjoy this album on my first listen, it was very much not what I expected from Kylie, but still I kept coming back to it. So rarely do you hear an album deep while someone is in the middle of something, usually it's in retrospect. I wonder how she feels about

  46. Exactly. Critics opinions are far too overrated. They very often have particular preferences and will trash albums based on the person rather than the music. Caution is Mariah's most critically acclaimed album. It's a good body of work, but under that logic it's her best?.... I think not.
