I agree with a lot of this. I don’t want war, I don’t wish war — but passivity and/or isolationsim in this case (and they are walking hand in hand with a whole gamut of reasonings) will open the door to catastrophic consequences. One day it’s Ukraine, then it’s Moldova, then Hungary, then Poland, then the Balkans, then Western Europe. You can’t wish away conflict, but if you work to stop it and not bury your head in the sand, you can stop an even greater conflict. I do think that the EU should shoulder more of the burden here, they have more an immediate vested interest

I’m going to start by saying that I do not believe that at this moment in time we (as in the US) need to be engaging with Russia militarily in this conflict in terms of boots on the ground troops in the Ukraine. At least not alone. We are not competent enough to be of any assistance and we are not tactful enough to do it without causing a larger scale war to erupt.
