  1. I know the day technically belongs to Kety but in the corner humbly and quietly Jonna Lee lowkey saved music itself today with her second solo album. She’s such a beguiling force of nature musically. The 2:10 mark alone in this >>>> some pop gorl careers

@Hylia It's not that I think it's worse, per se, than prior seasons, as the show arguably makes many of the same mistakes it has from the beginning, but it seems to matter more because this is "the end" and what the characters are stuck with. In addition, I feel a little ambivalent about the Starks' endings. It's clear the writers (and Martin?) are willing to break some of the rules to give them a happy ending, which is fine and all, but if they can break those, why did they have to fuck over Dany and Jon, not to mention Brienne and Varys.

I’ll keep it to the pop girls because there are too many non-pop ones to even begin to narrow them down: Madge: Ray of Light, Confessions, Bedtime Stories, Music, American Life Florence: all of them tbh Kylie: Aphrodite, Impossible Princess, Body Language Britney: Blackout Lana: Honeymoon Beyonce: Beyoncé (ST) Lorde: Pure Heroine Ellie Goulding: Halcyon Kacey Musgraves: Golden Hour Robyn: Body Talk I love some others by Katy and Gaga, e.g., but there are always a handful of songs that I dislike, whereas the albums ab

  10. Wow what a flop bitch ignore her she drinks wtf Inside of Me is one of my favorites from BS now. The only acceptable answer to which song to remove is Don't Stop. It's one of exactly two songs on the album that feel formulaic compared to how amazing the rest of the album is. And the only song that could feasibly be taken off Music is Nobody's Perfect but it's still a great song.

  13. TUN but it has to be the one with the black background. I’m kinda over that washed out ugly shade of pink she always uses but that’s just me. Either way, the Polaroid photo is beautiful and the upside down effect actually works for it well. Sweetener’s cover photo is gorgeous too and I know the reason why it’s upside down, but it’s a very simple and classic pose and position so it being upside down is always slightly jarring, like it was a mistake. The TUN cover escapes that entirely, at least to me.
  14. The suit was a real surprise and I liked it too! The other highlight for me though was the liquid dress at the end. A lot of the video reminded me of aspects of the Moulin Rouge! aesthetic () and that part especially did

  20. A fact: “Secret” is one of Madonna’s best songs ever. mad6 The use of humming to foreshadow Ray of Light. The impeccably understated production. The beguiling lyrics. The lush and soft side of her voice. The sheer bop qualiTEA.

Madonna's humming is always just... really good? It's kind of inexplicable, she's just a good hummer. creep1

@Madonna I do agree Frozen is better but they’re from such different worlds musically that it’s hard to compare them beyond the humming. I just find it interesting that after this song she seems to have realized how effective it can be, as @LittleDudeNT5 says.

I listened on earphones during a break from work and definitely liked it more than I remembered. Your impacT. burn1 There’s some real influences of jazz in it, and to me this brings out something I’d never associated with the album before. I know BS is her first R&B influenced album as a whole, but it’s interesting to look backward and find threads from that and other genres of black music (like soul and gospel on parts of LaP and some jazz in Secret Garden) that were there before.

To be fair, I think that she is not in love with Godtime Stories because her label was too restrictive about what she wanted to do. I think she really loves the material she created but I don't think she likes the era because of all the controversy she still had with Erotica. She was basically a joke those years. But sometimes it feels like she doesn't really love anything from the 90s besides Vogue. nicki4

And she still being strong with Hard Candy is why it seems she lost her touch by leaving Warner. She was pretty messy with the whole HC era, but at least she did sound like she was in the head of the project and wasn't there just to sing and call it a day like she sounds in most of the songs from MDNA. Warner also said NO to Candy Shop as a lead single. With her new label that probably would've happened. dead1

The thing is, her team was really bad in the last 2 eras and it seems she realized that because everything from Madame X is starting better, even if I don't like the song, it seems more memorable than last time. So... She does have her touch still, I was wrong, but she does need people who push her to do better. nat1

    4. Satori

      Satori

I think that's definitely the case re Bedtime Stories and her still having a hard time with that period of her career. To go from all the backlash of Erotica and then having the label try to micromanage her was probably vile. It reminds me of the way she shaded the MDNA/RH eras on Insta leading up to this one by @ing Guy O and implying she phoned things in because she was being pushed a certain way. Maybe less so with RH than MDNA but still. It's a shame that there's a lingering resentment for the early 90s material and I think you're right in that regard. I love Vogue but there are other things she should recover from that time and revisit.

HC is a weird situation. I agree with you that this was the last one that seems to show her distinctive touch, but it's also the beginning of the decline. It's the first Madonna album since before RoL where there are songs that literally serve no purpose and are 100% filler (like Dance 2night... wtf with that useless and basic song that absolutely anyone could have recorded). Even with that, though, MDNA barely feels like a Madonna record by comparison. There are like three songs that indisputably great and the rest might be good but are definitely basic on some level.

I 100% agree with what you said at the end about her team failing her the last two and her really needing a strong set of managers to make shit not a mess. I'm really pleased you're observing a change in this era despite not caring for Medellin. I notice it too!

You can't tell me you don't like it all, hoe. I actually like that it's not overblown and starts out subtle and smooth. It makes the effect by the end of the song that much better. Listen again with earphones bitch.

I quite like Reggaeton, but I feel like there's a subtlety to this song that a lot of the first impressions I'm seeing here aren't embracing. My first listen is always with the best possible earphones so that I can really hear everything as best I can, and by the end the song had completely won me over. bebe1
