The Jonathan Ross Show (UK) - TV Promo

    Spoiler

The moment that has been said to come is finally here after a long time of promotion and anticipation, in fact, Tinashe is indeed back to the music scene with a new project entitled 'Haywire' which dropped earlier this month marking a new start for the singer after the fiasco that happened last year with her somophore album 'Kachingwe'. Moving on with her third studio album, Tinashe first announced the album when she unveiled her new single 'Roll The Dice' as the lead single of 'Haywire'. The song went to reach #2 during Haywire release week becoming Tinashe first top 2 hit.

Despite Tinashe's hiatus last year, her comeback has been very anticipated as many fans wondered for so long the reason of the singer's disappearance. Needless to say that the hype around Tinashe began to grow back when she released 'Roll The Dice' and promoted it all over the world with countless appearances and performances. Tinashe hasn't stopped proving herself and 'Haywire' is a testament to that although the singer is aware that she still has a lot to accomplish to be even greater, nonetheless to say that her stamina and work ethic is unmatchable.

It's safe to say that Tinashe is becoming more and more etablished in the music industry seeing how she scored her first top 2 hit on the charts with 'Roll The Dice' and her first #1 single 'Lie To Me'. 'Haywire' looks like it's shaping up to be Tinashe's biggest and most acclaimed record of her career.

Now that Tinashe is back on track with a new body of work, the pop star is currently on the road for another promotional campaign. In fact, Tinashe is currently in the UK to promote her new project with her most recent interview being on The Jonathan Ross Show. Check out what the singer revealed below.

    On 'Lie To Me' artwork

The visual component is important for me because it just adds another element to how I’m able to express myself and express my art. The public hears your music and they get to watch you through a visual element like a music video or a live show or even a cover, not only I think that it's an important part of the puzzle but it can also enhance how people hear the song. And dance is a huge part of what I do as well so logically I incorporate it into my visuals.

On being on the cover of the biggest fashion magazines

I definitely want to do more of that in the future. I think its fun to be a part of making fashion, and being involved with the constant evolution of the industry. Fashion is another way of expressing myself too, just as much as dancing and performing. I've done photoshoots in the past that could have been kept for albums, it's truly another form of art. For 'Haywire', I had this rock imagery with high heel boots and flames everywhere because that was the image I had in mind while creating the album. Therefore it's important for me for the visuals to match the music.

After the host's questions, Tinashe gave a performance of 'Roll The Dice' & 'Lie To Me'  on the show.

On the difference between 'Haywire' and her previous records

I would say the biggest difference conceptually is a lot of the timing, the pacing of the actual songs. The sound of my previous projects feel more laid back, a little bit more moody, vibey so it’s definitely something you want to listen to maybe while you’re smoking and relaxing on your day off. Well, that applies more to 'Rewind' because 'Kachingwe' is when I started going for a sound more upbeat. Then 'Haywire' is very energetic and it has a lot more tempo, a lot more urgency in the songs. Even while they are both two different parts of who I think I am as an artist, they are both equally important, so it's kind of another side of me.

On opening up lyrically through 'Haywire'

I know that one day, I'll listen back to these songs and be proud of myself because I feel like there’s strength in vulnerability and being able to show when you’re upset or heartbroken or homesick. I think having an uptempo and energetic beat over sad lyrics is something that makes it easier to open up because people won't pay attention to the lyrics as much. And that's what I tried to do with this album.

You can purchase Tinashe's single 'Roll The Dice' as long as her latest one 'Lie To Me' with Ariana Grande. While you're at it, you can also buy and listen to 'Haywire' which is available on all platforms.

Tinashe has more recently appeared on Sing! China for a performance. Before the performance, Tinashe was aksed a few questions. Check out what the singer revealed below.

You've really blown up even more this year with 'Haywire'. How have things changed for you?

Things have changed a lot. Everyday, it's like a new chapter in my book full of unpredictable journeys because you never really know what's going to happen next, that's probably the biggest change. I've been able to live unforgettable experiences that I could have never lived if I wasn't at the very peak of my career right now. Although I'm also very busy. I have little to no days off which is due to the fact that there's a lot of press, I'm in the studio all the time. A ton of traveling, playing shows all the time. I’ve been able to perform at so many different places. A major highlight has been meeting so many good people.

Did you feel some type of pressure while creating this album?

Most people would believe that coming out of a hiatus was the biggest pressure for me but I think the biggest hurdle is the pressure that there is to get a hit off your album in order to succeed and put out your album. So you got to have this idea in mind while creating your music that there has to be a song that needs to pop the fuck off but it’s something I have to deal with.

Late Show With James Corden (US) - TV Promo

    Spoiler

Tinashe has become one of the biggest forces in the music industry for the past two years and one of the youngest faces of music. The R&B songstress returned to the music scene with a powerful trap-influenced hit earlier this year when she announced to social media by surprise her comeback single entitled 'Roll The Dice'. The track was directly linked to an album that the singer later announced to be called 'Haywire' which was released this week.

Check out what the singer revealed below.

On working with usual producers for 'Haywire'

A lot of times when you’re collaborating with these big producers, you kind of have to “try out,” in a way. They want you to sing on their shitty songs, then give you their crappy beats, and you kind of have to prove yourself. I don’t think anyone’s going to try to work for you. So, I think with this third album, I didn’t have to do any of that kind of stuff, so I just went straight to the people that I already knew I had chemistry with and wanted to work with. I had already worked with Diplo for example and he had a major role on this album.

On being a female artist in the music industry

I think a lot of times, when you’re a young woman, you get put into particular boxes and especially in the music industry, it’s extremely male-dominated, from a production standpoint… really every angle of the music industry is very much male-dominated. So it’s very interesting, and it’s a lot harder to make it as a female artist for a lot of reasons. It does sometimes take a toll on me, because you feel like you don’t get the same type of recognition that you would like, that maybe male “peers” do. But I don’t think that that is a new phenomenon.

Tinashe then performed 'Roll The Dice' and 'Lie To Me' with Ariana Grande on the show.

You can buy Tinashe's third studio album 'Haywire' right now on iTunes and stream it on Encore.

On 'Haywire' being exactly what she envisioned

Surprisingly, the finished version of the album is exactly what I envisioned since the beginning, and that’s really exciting that I was able to accomplish that initial goal and initial dream that I had for the project. If I'm being honest, with my previous albums it's always been more complicated. I remember for my debut album, I completely scrapped the album and started over. Whereas with 'Haywire', the specifics definitely changed throughout and there’ve been a few different incarnations of it, but I think the overall vision, context, vibe, and mood have all been pretty set in stone.

On giving a piece of advice to newcomers

I'd tell them to continue to work harder everyday and to always just focus on creating the best art and as much as they can. The key is not to compare yourself to anyone, but to surpass yourself everytime and do better than what you did last time because sometimes it gets tough and that's when you should focus on your goals as an artist and never lose passion and motivation. Those two things are the most important to have because if you have them, you can truly get through everything that comes your way. And I say this as someone who didn't always know where I was heading to or what I wanted to do, it's ok to be lost and confused especially when you're just starting.

    On having control over 'Haywire'

For me it’s really important to have that hands-on approach. Also this project included less people in the creative process than my previous albums. I think with time, it became even more and more important to me to really have my vision to shine through every aspect of my artistry and with this album 'Haywire', it became even more apparent. I'm pretty sure that I've gained this sort of confidence and respect by now among my peers and people in the industry. I'm past the point where I'm just a pretty girl for them, I believe I made my voice more than heard by now.

    On the theme of 'Haywire'

'Haywire' taps into several topics and there are like several themes that unfold throughout the album. The dominant themes are love, regrets and delusion. If we take 'Lie To Me' as an example, it reflects on fake love but it's also deeper than that, it's about convincing yourself  that it's going to work out. I think the most optimistic song on the album is 'Roll The Dice', it really has the strongest message on the album about not being stuck with your sadness and moving on. 'Speed It Up' is another one with a positive message, surprisingly it became one of my favourite tracks with time.

Tinashe has most recently graced the cover of Harper's Bazaar magazine of this month's issue, the singer talks about new album 'Haywire', making hits and her meteoric rise to the top of the charts.

You've released your third studio album 'Haywire' last week which went to reach #1 becoming the biggest debut of your career. Did you expect such success?

No, I absolutely did not ever think that was going to happen. I mean, I think I gave my all into both this album and era so you can't take that away from me, I did work really hard but my goal was always to surpass myself and not being a chart-topper and dominate the charts. I'm reaching levels of success that are still new to me, so I'm still getting used to it somehow.

When you’re in the studio, do you have certain types of people you like to have in the room, or do you prefer to be alone with the engineer?

I pretty much keep it as minimal as possible. I’m not the type of person that brings too many people to the studio, really. Every once in a while, but it depends on the vibe. With some producers, sometimes it’s a little more chill with more people in the room. With others, it’s different. With some people, I’d rather just have them send me beats and do it in my home studio, so it’s kind of situational based on the producer. But for the most part, I kind of prefer to be more alone in that process.

How do you know a song is a hit when you finish writing it?

That's the thing, you never actually know what's bound to happen. When I put out 'Roll The Dice' this year, I did not know what to expect because I was coming back after a long time of being gone. So when it smashed out of the gate, I was like 'really? Is that how it is'. It's either going to connect with people or not, artists don't have a say on that. Although, I always trust my instincts and they're very often right when it comes to the singles I've picked throughout my career.

You've earned your first ever #1 single with 'Lie To Me' this week. Do you feel like it took you a long time to reach this milestone?

Well, it took me 3 albums but here I am now. [laughs] No but seriously, I don't feel like it took me a long time, I think it took the time that it needed. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and if it wasn't meant to happen with my previous singles then it was not the time. I'm happy to be growing each year, and that's what is exciting about my job which is to never know what is going to happen.

Do you find yourself sometimes more productive?

Yeah, I think I probably do better at night. I try to be able to write at all times, but honestly, I’m definitely more of a night person than a morning person, which I think most music people are. Probably after dusk and not necessarily late night… when the sun goes down. I'm more at peace with myself at night, you know after a busy day, getting to sit down and relax all by myself is usually when I'm the most inspired.

Do you have a certain place or time, when you’re writing, that you find yourself hit with inspiration a lot, or is it just random?

It’s kind of depending on where I am in my life, like for most of the time, I'm inspired by what I was going through at a certain time, and what I was feeling emotionally then, but now, I’m going through a lot of really totally different kind of experiences ever since I kicked off a new era. I’m meeting tons of people at a time, I'm traveling so much and I have little to no free time. Now my inspiration is coming from a different place, so it’s just kind of interesting to see how it shifts. It’s always easier to write in the perspective that I’m at, and with the current lifestyle that I'm living right now, I get inspired by the people that surround me and the different cultures I get to discover while on the road.

On getting her first #1 single

Unexpected is the word to describe what just happened this week. There were not huge expectations to begin with when I came out this year after a hiatus and released a new single mid-week, my team and I didn't know what to expect and what was coming. It really became crazy when 'Roll The Dice' started smashing out of the gate, but if you would have told me that a new single of mine would DEBUT at #1, I would have not believed any single word you said. I don't think you predict these type of things, I certainly did not. I had Ariana on the phone today and she was so joyful about the news.

On wanting to tour for 'Haywire'

I think it'll definitely be happening, especially seeing the response from the public which has been extremely positive. I didn't think I'd be scoring the biggest debut of my career with my third studio album, but I knew deep down that this album was going to bring great things to me and open several doors. Hopefully, I'd get to headline a world tour with this new album. Nothing is confirmed, and we haven't properly talked about it but it's definitely in the back of my head.

    On 'Haywire'

The creative process of this abum compared to my previous projects is very different. At the time when I was working on 'Rewind' and 'Kachingwe', I still felt like I was on a leash and unable to be creatively free. I wouldn't say that I was forced, but it was one of these situations where it was like 'Okay, I will trust you guys and this is what you believe is the best decision so I’m going to get behind it,' I would give my trust to the people around me very often, I allowed myself to take a step back and realized that it was my turn to get back into the driver’s seat and take the lead.

On what music represents to her

The biggest thing that music is for me is bring people together. The more people that I can connect with, the more that I’m able to introduce to my world and to bring them in and that's why I've always said that my primary goal is to introduce my music to people that may not be familiar with me in order to grow a loving and loyal fanbase. That's more important to me than commercial success. It's been interesting to see how I’ve evolved, how I am telling my story nowadays. I go back to my old records sometimes and it's striking to see the change.

Marking a new start for the singer after the fiasco that happened last year with her somophore album 'Kachingwe' and despite Tinashe's hiatus, her comeback has been very anticipated as many fans wondered for so long the reason of the singer's disappearance. It's safe to say that Tinashe is becoming more and more etablished in the music industry seeing how she scored her second top 2 hit on the charts with 'Roll The Dice' and how 'Haywire' looks like it's shaping up to be Tinashe's biggest and most acclaimed record of her career.

The singer must be living the dream of a pop star with the most recent news announcing 'Lie To Me' as the number 1 song of this week's charts becoming Tinashe's first #1 single. It's probably a wild and exciting day at Everest Records this week.

Now that Tinashe is back on track with a new body of work, the pop star is currently on the road for another promotional campaign. In fact, Tinashe is currently in the United Kingdom to promote her new project with her most recent appearance being on Today Show. Check out what the singer revealed below.

On occupying the top 2 spots on this week's charts

First thing that came to mind was 'oh, I definitely didn't see that coming'. It's incredible and yet scary and weird… I don't know, I guess I'm not used to reaching those high moutains of success so It feels new to me which is why I'm kind of scared of not knowing how to deal with it. I most definitely thought that 'Roll The Dice' was going to take over the charts this week since it has been steady on the top 10 for weeks now so I really believed it was getting pushed to #1 but I guess 'Lie To Me' decided otherwise. I'm not mad about it at all, it's a pleasant surprise because I certainly never imagined I would ever debut at #1.

On being grateful for her parents' support

Everything that I'm doing now and if I'm here today is because of my parents. As a little girl, they were making a lot of sacrifices on my behalf. We couldn’t really afford to live in L.A. but we still moved there because it was the only place where I could continue to pursue entertainment and go to my auditions, go to my dance classes and have a shot at making it in the industry. If it wasn't for their support and for the fact that they believed in me, I truly wouldn't  be doing half of the things I'm doing today. They made a lot of sacrifices just so that I could stay there and pursue my career and I give them a lot of credit for their belief in me.

Ava Max has great pop tunes, but she's still just stuck releasing singles left & right. We don't have an album or anything from her.

I don't get the hate against her though, y'all probably love some of her songs lol3

That was after your random rant in the Selena thread, not only you’re late but I’m also allowed to say whatever shit I want to.

So if you’re coming here to start a beef, fuck out of here because once again, you’re in the wrong section.

And why would your name keep a section alive? I’m giggling rip3
