Republic released a new statement saying the album has surpassed 3 million units in global consumption by the end of its first week: This is absolutely massive since Reputation is ~only~ at around 8 million after two years. However, don’t confuse this with its first week numbers. It’ll likely open with 1.1-1.2M globally (UWC) since they don’t count China and this 3M number is a combination of all its total units. But still massive nevertheless since she’s likely going to outdo Reputation’s numbers some day despite less pure sales. A breakdown: 1M+ China 850K+ US 300-400K rest of the world 700-800K pre-release SPS units (the units already accumulated from the singles)
-
TUN #1, WWAFAWDWG #2, Lover #3 The album is also nearing or over 700M overall if I’m not mistaken.
-
According to Billboard the album has already moved over 750K SPS units in 5 days, securing her the biggest debut for any album since her own Reputation in 2017. The previous biggest debut since then was Scorpion by Drake with 733K.

Lana proves she might just be more like us than we think. It's not allBugattis and living like Jim Morrison, it turns out. First, Lana says, "...I feel very much that writing is not my thing: I’m writing’s thing." At times, even, she "wasn’t in the mood to write," which—as any writer can attest—is very much a Mood. But then, Lana drops the most leveling tidbit yet: "...when [writing] leaves me alone, I’m just at Starbucks, talking shit all day," she says, making every one of us who's ever spent an entire day gossiping in a stripmall Starbucks while slurping Frappuccinos feel seen to our drama-guzzling cores. Same, Lana, extremely same. We must stan our shit-talking queen. source: vice.com

Taylor Swift has not given up on the full-length album as an indicator of success as well as art form, and judging from pre-release sales for “Lover,” which comes out Friday, her belief in the ongoing viability of the format is not in vain. “The anticipation of this album is extraordinary, with pre-sales quickly approaching one million copies globally,” Monte Lipman, founder and chairman of Republic Records, tells Variety. Swift’s previous album, 2017’s “Reputation,” was the last album to sell a million copies in the U.S. in its opening week, and all eyes are on “Lover” — her first release since signing with Republic — to reveal whether that’s still an attainable goal this late into the streaming era. The international pre-release tally suggests that it might well be. X

Through the end of July, YTD digital album downloads are down 43% vs. the same period in 2017, a few months before the release of Swift’s previous album, Reputation. Digital downloads made up 58% of Reputation’s first week—over 700k. It’s not likely this can be repeated, with some industry observers suggesting Lover’s digital total could finish in the 200-250k range. i hope she hits 1mln and at least one million and one copy

Both Ariana and Taylor previously held the record together, then Boyfriend broke it, now Lover put them right back at the same place (not sure where they rank overall, Drake and his other counterparts surely have more) But both Taylor and Ari have 6 — Lover, YNTCD, ME!, ...RFI?, LWYMMD and Shake It Off are Taylor’s #1s there
