  3. Russi Taylor -- the woman who voiced Minnie Mouse for more than three decades -- has died. Taylor passed away Friday at her Glendale home in Southern California, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. He says, "Minnie Mouse lost her voice with the passing of Russi Taylor." Iger went on to say, "We’re so grateful for Russi’s talent as well as the tremendous spirit and great joy she brought to everything she did. It was a privilege to have known her and an honor to have worked with her, and we take comfort in the knowledge that her work will continue to entertain and inspire for generations to come." He added, "Russi will be sorely missed and our hearts go out to her family and friends, along with our deepest condolences." The circumstances around her death are unclear. Russi voiced the iconic Disney character consistently since the '80s -- 1987 to be exact, which is when she's first credited for playing Minnie in a TV movie called "DTV 'Doggone' Valentine." She auditioned and landed the coveted role. Hers is the Minnie voice most millennials and kids are familiar with. She's continued to voice Minnie as recently as 2019, and has a little over 80 Minnie credits to her name over the a variety of Disney projects. Some of the most notable contributions to the Disney canon as Minnie ... "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" "Runaway Brain," "Goofy and the Three Musketeers," "Mickey Mouse Works," "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and lots of others. Russi's voice talents went well beyond Disney though ... she's voice other iconic characters too, like Pebbles on "The Flinstones," the Mackleberry Twins and Martin Prince on "The Simpsons" and other characters on "The Jetsons," "Scooby Doo," "The Muppets" ... plus plenty of other Disney favorites. She was once married to longtime Mickey Mouse voice actor Wayne Allwine, who died of diabetes in 2009. They didn't have any children together, but she's got a whole country of kids who love her. Russi was 75. RIP. https://www.tmz.com/2019/07/27/minnie-mouse-voice-actor-russi-taylor-dead-dies-75-disney/ She most notably provided the voices of Minnie Mouse from 1986 and The Simpsons character Martin Prince from 1989 until her death
  4. Music producer Dr. Luke testified Tuesday in Katy Perry’s copyright infringement case for her 2013 hit “Dark Horse.” Christian rapper Marcus Gray (aka Flame) accused Perry and her team of copyright infringement for his song “Joyful Noise,” alleging that the two songs are significantly similar. Dr. Luke produced the song from a beat written by Henry Walter, also known by the name Cirkut, who testified Tuesday. He said the bass notes are too basic to be safeguarded by a copyright and told the jury that his team had never heard the track “Joyful Noise.” Since the Christian genre is substantially different to mainstream pop, he alleges there would have been no way for the team to have heard the track. Perry stood before the court on July 18, also testifying that she wasn’t familiar with “Joyful Noise.” Cirkut and Dr. Luke brought the beats and bass notes to Perry, and she considered the song a “Trojan Horse” symbolizing female empowerment. Her attorney, Christine Lapera, also determined that the bass notes were too fundamental to be protected under a copyright. The notes can be heard in songs such as “Merrily We Roll Along” and “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.” “This is a common musical building block used in many compositions”, said attorney Christine Lepera. “This is very basic, like kindergarten-basic. [Gray and his co-writers] cannot monopolize that.” In response, “Joyful Noise” co-writer Emmanuel Lambert (aka Da Truth) argued on July 18 that the track was praised and popular in the Christian rock community and that it is readily available on streaming services, so Perry’s team would have had access to the song. Marcus Gray initially sued Perry back in 2014, saying that the song was similar enough to their 2008 hit “Joyful Noise” to constitute copyright infringement. The court hearing will continue shortly. https://variety.com/2019/music/news/dr-luke-katy-perry-copyright-infringement-1203277932/amp/

  8. - She was on the set of a music video shoot (which I’m guessing is... obviously... for single 3 that’ll come with the album like bad guy/buwygf came with their respective albums upon release lol) - Revealed more about the 4 Target deluxe editions - each edition will have 30 pages (120 total among all editions) of hand-picked diary entries she’s kept over the last 15 years, including original lyrics of All Too Well. She brought out like 30 diaries she’s had over the years and had them sitting there basically showed us an example to see that the entries we will get are real and scanned into the booklets - Jack co-produced a large portion of this album (I’m assuming more than half) - The Archer is just a promo single - Thanked us and VMAs for all the nominations

  11. Five Seconds Of Summer were sued in a Texas court last week in one of those ever popular song-theft lawsuits. The Aussie pop outfit are accused of ripping off a 2016 song by Hungary-based musicians David Henderson, David Toth and Peter Ferencz on their 2018 hit ‘Youngblood’. The earlier track is called ‘White Shadows’ and the lawsuit is being pursued by an entity called White Shadows LLC, which is owned by the three songwriters. Henderson himself released a version of that song in 2016 and appeared on Hungary’s Eurovision linked show ‘A Dal’ performing it the following year. In a statement accompanying its lawsuit, White Shadows LLC alleges that, in 2018, “Five Seconds Of Summer, pressed for time and facing the prospect of commercial irrelevancy, released ‘Youngblood’, a single which would become the titular song of their third studio album. The song’s success propelled the band to new heights of fame and fortune, virtually single-handedly. Unfortunately, substantial portions of the song were copied directly from ‘White Shadows'”. Legal reps for White Shadows LLC claim that the similarities between the two songs is “so striking” that “it could not be the result of mere coincidence”. They go on: “The first melodic phrase of ‘Youngblood’ is virtually identical to the melodic phrase from ‘White Shadows'”, and the phrases are repeated four times in each respective song. It is clear that 5 Seconds Of Summer had access, means, and motive to appropriate the melodic phrase of ‘White Shadows’, and we firmly believe that any listener who hears both songs will notice the substantial similarities”. “In short,”, they add, “Five Seconds Of Summer misappropriated an earworm melody from Henderson, Toth and Ferencz, claimed it was their own creation, and rode the riff to world-wide success; we believe this is jaw-droppingly obvious and, frankly, it shocks the conscience”. Concluding, the lawyers say: “We look forward to presenting evidence that Five Seconds Of Summer not only infringed on our client’s copyright and misappropriated portions of ‘White Shadows’, but that the band has experienced worldwide acclaim and derived substantial revenue by exploiting the work of three young songwriters. We are confident that our clients will be vindicated in court”. https://completemusicupdate.com/article/five-seconds-of-summer-accused-of-ripping-off-hungary-based-songwriters-on-youngblood/
