  4. As Australia experiences record-breaking drought and bushfires, koala populations have dwindled along with their habitat, leaving them “functionally extinct.” The chairman of the Australian Koala Foundation, Deborah Tabart, estimates that over 1,000 koalas have been killed from the fires and that 80 percent of their habitat has been destroyed. Recent bushfires, along with prolonged drought and deforestation has led to koalas becoming “functionally extinct” according to experts. Functional extinction is when a population becomes so limited that they no longer play a significant role in their ecosystem and the population becomes no longer viable. While some individuals could produce, the limited number of koalas makes the long-term viability of the species unlikely and highly susceptible to disease. Deforestation and bushfires destroy the main nutrient source of koalas, the eucalyptus tree. An adult koala will eat up to 2 pounds of eucalyptus leaves per day as it’s main staple of nutrients. While eucalyptus plants will grow back after a fire, it will take months, leaving no suitable food source for koalas and starvation a likely scenario for many. Many are urging the Australian government to enact the Koala Protection Act, written in 2016 but never passed into law and molded after the Bald Eagle Protection Act in the U.S. The Koala Protection Act would work to protect habitats and trees vital to koalas as well as protect koalas from hunting. Recent viral videos of Australians rescuing koalas has led to increased donation to support hospitalization and help for burned koalas. The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital setup a Go Fund Me page seeking donations to help the hospital treat injured koalas. To date, they have raised $1.33 million, well over their $25,000 goal. This comes from over 30,000 donors. Part of their effort is to install drinking stations for koalas in areas devastated by the fires. The funds will also be used for a “Koala Ark” as a refuge for burned koalas to live in a healthy habitat during rehabilitation. Source

  8. Famous K-Pop star CL (Chaelin) member and leader of 2NE1 has finally parted ways with YG Entertainment. The band already split back in December of 2016 after one of their members, Minzy, had decided to part ways with that corrupt mess of a company. With their latest track "Goodbye" (dedicated to their fans and the member Minzy), 2NE1 said farewell to a career full of success and happy moments. However, fans were excited to hear the solo material CL and YG Entertainment had been hyping for years since CL was supposed to debut in the US market. Little did we know that we wouldn't hear anything... AT ALL. In 2018, and after a whole year waiting, CL lowkey confirmed that she had been working a lot in music and had everything ready to drop but YG wouldn't let her drop it since it was not the "right moment". Now, in November 2019 it's been confirmed that CL has finally parted ways with YG Entertainment, and I personally couldn't be happier. However that mess of a company can't stop being embarassing and has now deleted CL's Youtube channel. The way they've tried to fuck her over all the time is just sad... Like when she booked a performance at the Winter Olympics in Seoul and she had to do everything on her own (I'm talking hair, outfits, make up, rehearsals...). The start will be hard for sure, but we'll be here to support her like we've always been. I hope that Scooter Braun (she's signed with him) can help her. LOVE YOU CL!
  9. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Asian_Month/2019 Wikipedia Asian Month is an annual Wikipedia contest focused on the promotion of Asian content on various language-specific Wikipedias. Each participating community runs a month-long online edit-a-thon every November on their language's Wikipedia to create new content or improve existing articles about Asian topics apart from their own country. Participation is not limited to Asian communities. The first iteration of this competition began in 2015 and each year the number of articles has increased and the participants have diversified and expanded. In the past three years, over 20,500 high-quality articles have been added in more than 50 language-specific Wikipedias by more than 2,000 Wikipedia editors. As part of the friendship and cultural exchange of the Wikipedia Asian Community, participants who create at least four articles will receive a special Wikipedia Postcard from another participating community. Get ready to be surprised! You never know which Wiki community will be sending you postcards! Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". Rules In a nutshell: Create new articles relating to Asia (people, places, culture, etc.), 3,000 bytes and 300 words minimum, with sources, during November 2019. Lists do not qualify. The article is newly created by you (i.e. not expanding stubs) between November 1, 2019 0:00 and November 30, 2019 23:59 (UTC). The article should be at least 3,000 bytes and at least 300 words in length. (excluding infobox, templates, etc.) The article must fulfill the notability criteria. The article must have decent references; doubtful or controversial statements in the article should be verifiable by the citation(s) listed in that article. The article must not be purely machine translated and should be properly copy edited. There must be no major issues with the article (no copyright violations, questions of notability, etc.) Editors who submit multiple instances of copyright violations may be disqualified from winning the ambassador title. The article should not be a list. Exception: Creating a list that becomes a featured list counts. (Only applies in Wikipedias that have featured lists.) The article should be informative. The article should be about any topic concerning an Asian country. Articles submitted by an organizer need to be checked by other organizers. Judge(s) from each language Wikipedia will determine whether an article is accepted or not for their language Wikipedia's contest. When you create 4 articles that fulfill the above rules, you will receive a WAM postcard from one of the Asian communities. Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors will receive a signed certificate from Asian Affiliates, and an additional postcard. See the Q&A for more information.
  10. The “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot starring Naomi Watts has been scrapped by HBO, TheWrap has learned. Ordered to pilot last year, the untitled project from George R.R. Martin and “Kingsman” screenwriter Jane Goldman is set thousands of years before the events of the original “Game of Thrones” series in the era known as the Age of Heroes. Along with Watts, the now-dead show’s cast includes “Harry Potter” alum Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie (who will next appear in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars Episode IX”), Denise Gough (“Guerrilla,” “Angels in America”), Jamie Campbell Bower (“Twilight,” “Mortal Instruments”), Sheila Atim (“Harlots”), Ivanno Jeremiah (“Black Mirror”), Georgie Henley (“The Chronicles of Narnia”), Alex Sharp (“To the Bone”), Toby Regbo (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”), Marquis Rodriguez, John Simm, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan and Dixie Egerickx. https://www.thewrap.com/game-of-thrones-prequel-pilot-starring-naomi-watts-scrapped-by-hbo/

  13. After the Chilean government announced that they would raise the price of the metro, last week the high school students started a massive elude of payment as a form of protest. The government’s answer to this protest was to dismiss it, saying that the ticket prices for students are to remain the same. Hence the government is entirely oblivious to the solidarity students were showing with their families, who are the ones to suffer from the increase. Finally, on 18th October, the students started neutralizing the metro ticket machines since their voice wasn’t being heard. By 5pm that day, people began to join the protest in the streets of Chile’s capital Santiago. No one has called on them to do so: it was a self-convocated action of thousands of people who got tired of being constantly abused by their government and decided to protest on the street; leaving their workplaces, their homes, their universities, to march to the centre of the city and let the government know that they aren’t going to take it any more. By 6pm, the main metro line was not operating. There was nothing more for people to do other than walk: and so they did. The riot police were not prepared to control so many groups of people in so many different places. By 7pm, it wasn´t just the centre. People went to the streets in their neighbourhoods to make barricades and to make noise, especially with an old technique learned in the dictatorship known as “cacerolazo” (in which people repeatedly hit a cooking pot in the form of protest); and in some cases to burn their local metro station. During the evening, the situation was impossible to control by the government. The riot police from other cities was brought to Santiago, and they started to shoot at the rioters with birdshot. Around midnight, the government declared martial law in Santiago and announced that they were ordering the military to put order on the streets. By 2am on Saturday, the soldiers were already on the streets of Santiago. This rage has its root in something much deeper than the mere ticket price increase. It’s linked to the fact the Chilean living wage is the lowest in OCDE countries. The country’s minimum monthly salary is only £327, all while the politicians in the congress get £9,592.05. In addition to this, the pensions are also low; the public health system is very precarious, the education is bad and expensive. Because the list of injustice is so long, many other cities started to join the riots, forcing the riot police that was sent to Santiago to return back. The government began to be afraid, and so they announced a curfew for different cities. On Saturday night, the curfew was at 10pm, and then on Sunday, it began at 7pm. Despite this, people are still going to the streets to protest, make noise, light barricades and keep the “cacerolazos” going. The country’s media are continually showing images of people looting shops and houses, burned buses (that later we knew where not really in service… very suspicious) and some other “scary, chaotic images”. All with some apocalyptic music in the background and a logo “Estado de Emergencia”. In the meantime, broadcasting from abroad is shut down. It is not only a joke compared to what is happening right now, but also a way to boost fear, so the government can justify the people who are missing and the deaths that are happening (officially 11 that we know of so far). The government has announced that they will freeze the price of the metro, being too blind to see that the problem right now it is not “the 30 pesos but the 30 years” of abuse that the people of the country have suffered. Despite the fact the city has collapsed, many stores have closed, and public transportation is not working; protests are continuing. This morning people have been calling everyone to riot, many workers and cities have joined the social fight; the militaries are on the streets waiting for the riots to happen and ready to shoot, the social media is slowly being blocked, and many people are afraid of what may happen. We are in a great need of international support and solidarity since what it’s coming next is uncertain. Source: https://freedomnews.org.uk/what-is-happening-in-chile/ These are some videos of the military SHOOTING at civilians and all around being abusive (even towards children). People's houses are even being broken into... And the military is also damaging public property and blaming it on the left and the protestants. They've started fires in banks, an entire building, etc... there is a twitter hashtag named "PiñeraDictator", Piñera being the current president of Chile. I don't know if the videos will be up for long since chilean accounts are actually being taken down, but yeah, please be aware of the situation. This type of situation is very familiar to all latinamericans who know the basic ammount of their own history. Sharing and letting other people know what is going on is a way to help so please do so!
  14. "Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman, the antiheroine and sometime love interest of the Caped Crusader, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.” Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman. Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters June 25, 2021. Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, took over “Batman” directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017. Affleck departed his role as Batman following “Justice League,” allowing Reeves to pick his own Bruce Wayne. Reeves’ “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark will produce. https://variety.com/2019/film/news/the-batman-zoe-kravitz-catwoman-1203302757/
  15. Robert Forster, a prolific character actor who was nominated for an Oscar for Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” and appeared in more than 100 films, died Friday in Los Angeles of brain cancer. He was 78. Tarantino created the bail bondsman character Max Cherry with Forster in mind, and the role netted him his first Academy Award nomination. Most recently Forster reprised his “Breaking Bad” role as Ed in “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” which was released Friday, and appeared in Steven Spielberg’s “Amazing Stories” and in “Werewolf.” David Lynch cast the actor with a distinctive weathered look in “Mulholland Dr.” and in the rebooted “Twin Peaks” as Sheriff Frank Truman. “I’ve done a lot of genre pictures in my career…I’ve always liked them,” Forster told the Bleecker Street blog upon the release of 2018’s indie drama “What They Had.” Forster played Tim Allen’s father in “Last Man Standing,” a rare comedy appearance, and played the father of a comatose mom in Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants,” which was nominated for ensemble acting prizes by SAG and the Gotham awards. Born in Rochester, N.Y., Forster started his career on Broadway in “Mrs. Dally Has a Lover” before John Huston cast him in “Reflections in a Golden Eye” opposite Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando. He appeared in “Medium Cool” for director Haskell Wexler and starred in the TV series “Banyon” — reportedly the role that Tarantino remembered when casting him in “Jackie Brown” — and appeared in movies including “Alligator,” “Olympus Has Fallen” and “American Perfekt.” Forster is survived by his children: Bobby, Elizabeth, Kate and Maeghen; his grandchildren: Tess, Liam, Jack and Olivia; and long time partner, Denise Grayson. https://variety.com/2019/film/news/robert-forster-dies-dead-jackie-brown-1203368514/
  16. Google has gone all-in with Big Pharma to push drugs and disease, while simultaneously blocking access to life-saving health information. Gone are the days when people could easily find information on nutrition, supplements, natural remedies and alternative therapies. But Google’s not stopping at censorship for health and wellness — the tech giant is also pushing pro-Big Pharma propaganda on their search engine. From trying to cover-up the opioid epidemic and Big Pharma’s death toll, to discrediting and silencing the natural health community, Google’s evil truly knows no bounds. For a company that once boasted the motto, “Don’t be evil,” things have surely gone downhill fast. Clearly, it is no coincidence that Google removed their “Don’t be evil” clause from their company code of conduct last year. Now, the floodgates are open and Evil Google is breaking loose. Google suppresses valuable health info Google has done a lot of terrible things, but their pharmaceutical agenda pushing tops the list. In recent months, the search engine giant has deigned itself the gatekeeper of all health information, selectively silencing those who dare to defy convention and speak out against the corrupt medical-pharmaceutical industrial complex. Valuable information about nutrition, alternative medicine and other life-saving therapies is now being suppressed. As Natural News writer Ethan Huff reported this summer, Google was caught actively altering search engine results to smear nutritional supplements and websites that promote natural wellness. As Huff reports, Green Med Info investigated Google’s autocomplete suggestions for the term “organic” and came up with these top results: • organic is a lie • organic is always non gmo • organic is a sham • organic is a myth • organic is a waste of money • organic is a marketing gimmick • organic is always non gmo logo As you can see, most of these are incredibly disparaging and meant to paint organics in negative light. Google’s search results for the phrase “supplements are” look even worse: • supplements are bad • supplements are useless • supplements are not regulated • supplements are bad for you • supplements are not fda approved • supplements are not regulated by the fda • supplements are dangerous • supplements are good for you • supplements are scams • supplements are garbage Only one of these is even remotely positive — and its practically at the bottom of the list. As Huff reports, these autocomplete results are deliberate attempts to devalue natural health information. But Google isn’t just trying to block out information on the value of “alternative” health information — the corrupt tech giant is also suppressing information on the dangers of pharmaceuticals. Pushing the pharma agenda The world’s most popular search engine has also come under fire for covering up opioid death statistics by altering autocomplete search results. Writing for UNZ, Steve Sailer reports that Bing and DuckDuckGo shared similar autocomplete results for the same search terms, while Google’s search results were completely different. A search for “Deaths from op” on Bing or DuckDuckGo returned with autocomplete suggestions such as “Deaths by opioids 2018” — and in fact, all of the autocomplete suggestions are all opioid-related. Conversely, Google returned just one autocomplete result for the same search terms: “Deaths from open heart surgery.” A disparity this extreme cannot be coincidental. Google also ranks “opioid use disorder” as a top search result for the term “opioid.” This hardly-used term appears before more commonly searched items like “opioid epidemic” or “opioid addiction” for obvious reasons: So the pharmaceutical industry can eschew responsibility while continuing to market their harmful drugs. It is also no coincidence that Google has merged itself with the pharmaceutical industry and launched its own pharma companies. Now using their power as the world’s largest search engine to manipulate the masses, Google is poised to surpass Monsanto as the world’s most evil company — if they haven’t already. https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-10-02-google-health-censorship-big-pharma-drugs-disease.html
