Pulse nightclub killer Omar Mateen sounded alternately angry, frazzled, evasive and condescending in nearly 30 minutes of phone conversations with an Orlando police negotiator. Though transcripts of the calls were already available, a judge decided Monday that audio of the 911 calls should be made public, providing the real-time sounds of a hostage crisis -- plus a chilling record of the killer's voice. Chubby older dads live longer and are more attractive to the opposite sex than their leaner counterparts, scientists have claimed. Becoming fatter after fatherhood due to decreasing testosterone levels may not fit the “macho” ideal, but it actually prolongs lives and strengthens immune systems, according to Prof Richard Bribiescas, professor of anthropology and deputy provost at Yale University. There is also evidence that these men are less likely to suffer from heart attacks and prostate cancer, while a study in 2008 found that men with high metabolisms were around 50% more likely

Asteroids regularly pass by Earth, as depicted here. A new NASA system called Scout aims to identify the ones that will come closest to the planet. A large space rock came fairly close to Earth on Sunday night. Astronomers knew it wasn't going to hit Earth, thanks in part to a new tool NASA is developing for detecting potentially dangerous asteroids. The tool is a computer program called Scout, and it's being tested at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. Think of Scout as a celestial intruder alert system. It's constantly scanning data from telescopes to see if there a

Norcia - Italian authorities said Monday they were taking care of more than 15,000 people left homeless by the country's most powerful earthquake in nearly 40 years. Although Sunday's 6.6-magnitude tremor did not result in any deaths, the third powerful quake in just over two months has left thousands of homes in ruins or structurally unsafe and emptied a string of villages and small towns across the country's mountainous central regions. The majority of residents of the devastated villages and towns have taken refuge with friends and family as they anxiously await a green

Chart-topping singer-songwriter Halsey is this year's Women in Music 'Rising Star,' recognized for her chart dominance and exceptional, unconventional talent. “Halsey is the voice of a generation, someone who is an impassioned political advocate and personal artist, the kind who can have a No. 1 single, as she did with ‘Closer,’ and not at all be categorized as your typical pop star," Min says. "Her credibility and talent make her a must-have collaborator for the likes of Justin Bieber and The Chainsmokers. Her incredible talent has earned her this year’s Rising Star award and we look fo

A burial slab believed to have held the body of Jesus Christ before he was resurrected has been uncovered for the first time in centuries by a restoration team in Jerusalem. The discovery was made by a team of scientists from the National Technical University of Athens (NTU) who were making restorations to the Edicule (“little house”), a structure which had been built around the tomb. Researchers now hope to study the original surface to better understand the original tomb and how it evolved to become one of the most sacred sites in Christendom.

More than two years after police officers fatally attacked Eric Garner on a Staten Island sidewalk, the federal criminal investigation is finally moving forward again. At least it looks that way. Attorney General Loretta Lynch has taken her New York-based lawyers and investigators off the case and replaced them with a team from the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, based in Washington. According to The Times, the investigation had been stalled by an internal disagreement over whether to charge the officers — including Daniel Pantaleo, who used a banned chokehold to take down Mr.

With less than two weeks to go before America decides if the ex-Apprentice host will pull off a surprise victory over Hillary Clinton, Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was destroyed early Wednesday morning by a man dressed as a city construction worker and wielding a sledgehammer and pick-ax in what looks to be a Tinseltown first. The attack on the embedded, five-pointed terrazzo and brass star came at around 5:45 AM on Hollywood Boulevard. Located right near the Dolby Theatre, Trump’s star was dedicated in 2007 in recognition of his work fronting and firing on the NBC series. A

A woman is suing KFC for $20million (£16 million) claiming the takeaway chain is indulging in false advertising because her $20 (£16) bucket of fried chicken was only half full.
