  2. Dua Lipa is heading for Number 1 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with Future Nostalgia. Dua’s second studio album leads all formats this week (physical, download and streaming) and is outperforming Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (2) by almost 2:1. She narrowly missed out on the Number 1 spot to 5 Seconds Of Summer on last week’s chart, debuting at Number 2 with the biggest opening week of sales by a female artist in 2020 so far. Last week’s victors in the highly competitive chart battle, 5 Seconds of Summer fall to Number 13 midweek with Calm. x
  3. Getty Images / VALERIE MACON Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer are officially confirmed to reprise their roles as Elio and Oliver in the upcoming Call Me By Your Namesequel. In other words, get ready to have your heart warmed and shattered in equal parts once again. In a new interview with La República, director Luca Guadagnino revealed that Chalamet and Hammer aren’t the only OG cast members returning for the sequel. “Before coronavirus, I had a trip to the United States to meet a writer I love very much, whose name I don’t want to say, to talk about the second part. Unfortunately, we had to cancel it.” He added, “Of course, it’s a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg (Elio’s father, Samuel), Esther Garrel (Elio’s love interest, Marzia), and the other actors – they will all be in the new film.” The new film adapts André Aciman’s follow-up novel, Find Me. It’s not entirely clear whether the film will riff off the narrative entirely, but the book synopsis is as follows, “Elio’s father, Samuel, now divorced, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit his son, who has become a gifted classical pianist. “A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami’s life definitively. Elio soon moves to Paris where he also has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe.” Anyone else suddenly got a craving for peaches? https://www.highsnobiety.com/p/timothee-chalamet-armie-hammer-cmbyn-2/
  4. The United States diverted a delivery of Chinese-made face masks bound for Germany at a Bangkok airport, a Berlin city official said Friday, accusing Washington of "modern-day piracy" as competition for protective gear against the coronavirus heats up. In a statement Berlin's state minister of the interior, Andreas Geisel, said 200,000 highly sought-after FFP2 masks, made by an American firm in China and destined for use by Berlin police, were "confiscated" in Bangkok. "At the moment we assume this is in connection with the US government's export ban on masks," the statement said. President Donald Trump, after a late start in procuring urgently needed protective gear, has in recent days invoked the Defense Production Act to get US firms to divert their resources to the battle against the pandemic. According to German newspaper Bild, the hijacked shipment contained masks made in China by US firm 3M, one of the leading brands in the sector, that were then diverted to the United States. Local official Geisel was more blunt, blasting the US for resorting to "methods from the Wild West". "We see this as an act of modern-day piracy," he said, urging the German government to remind Washington to "comply with international rules". www.thelocal.de/20200403/german-official-says-us-swooped-on-masks-at-bangkok-airport-coronavirus/amp
  5. “For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition,” the 71-year-old author wrote on his blog Tuesday. “But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions. I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going in to town or seeing anyone. Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day. Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.” “Some days, watching the news, I cannot help feeling as if we are all now living in a science fiction novel,” Martin continued. “But not, alas, the sort of science fiction novel that I dreamed of living in when I was a kid, the one with the cities on the Moon, colonies on Mars, household robots programmed with the Three Laws, and flying cars. I never liked the pandemic stories half so well… Let us hope we all come through this safe and sound. Stay well, my friends. Better to be safe than sorry.” https://www.thewrap.com/george-rr-martin-writing-winds-of-winter-coronavirus-self-quarantine-game-of-thrones/
  6. Justin Bieber’s 45-date stadium and arena tour has been postponed. The Changes 2020 tour, his first in three years, was scheduled to begin 5/14 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle and wrap 9/26 at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. New dates will be announced soon according to their statement, which reads: In light of the current public health crisis, and with the deepest concern for all those being affected, Justin Bieber will be postponing all currently scheduled 2020 dates for The Changes Tour. While Justin—along with his band, dancers and crew—has been hard at work preparing an amazing show, he has always put the health and well-being of his fans first and foremost. Justin is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get back out on the road and perform in a space that is safe for everyone. He asks that fans hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored as soon as the dates are rescheduled. Information on rescheduled dates will be forthcoming soon.
  7. “Empire” is now ending two episodes early. Fox has set Episode 18 as the hip-hop soap opera’s series finale. Since the final three episodes will run concurrently, doing some easy math on dates, the new series finale is set for Christmas 21. Originally, “Empire” was set to end with a 20-episode sixth season. Due to coronavirus shutdown, Episode 19 had to stop after partial production had been completed and Episode 20 just isn’t happening at all. Episode 18 will be recut with some Episode 19 footage in an effort to make what was to be the third-to-last episode feel more like a satisfying finale, a person with knowledge of the plans told TheWrap. https://www.thewrap.com/empire-to-end-early-coronavirus-episode-18-series-finale-video/
  8. of stans, The Navy. “I can’t say when I’m going to drop,” she says (it could even be out by the time you read this). “But I am very aggressively working on music,” she adds, coyly. What can we expect? “I don’t want my albums to feel like themes,” she says, taking a sip of wine. “There are no rules. There’s no format. There’s just good music, and if I feel it, I’m putting it out.” Does that mean that, contrary to reports, it’s not going to be a reggae album, I ask, trying to hide my disappointment. Rihanna chuckles. “Oh no, that is happening,” she reassures me. But on this, as in life, she won’t be pinned down. “I feel like I have no boundaries. I’ve done everything – I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre – now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want.” From her Vogue UK interview. We love a singer with full control who has shown being successful in every genre. When will other
  9. Rihanna and her nonprofit organization, the Clara Lionel Foundation, have donated much needed personal protective equipment to New York City hospitals, which are overwhelmed with sick patients amid the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Andrew Cuomo on Thursday praised the pop star, tweeting in part, "We're so appreciative of your help and that of so many others who have stepped up." As of Friday, there are more than 39,000 coronavirus cases in New York state. Cuomo also cited Rihanna's nonprofit as one of the several organizations and companies that have donated money and supplies to the state. Some of the donated supplies include hand sanitizer, equipment for field hospitals, free flights for medical volunteers and medical supplies and support items. "New York is fighting a war against this virus and we need all the help we can get. The generosity of these companies, organizations and individuals — and many others coming forward every day to offer support — will play a critical role in our mission to bolster our hospital surge capacity, support frontline workers and get people the help they need," Cuomo said in a statement. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/rihanna-donates-safety-gear-to-new-york-city-hospitals-coronavirus-2020-03-27/
  10. Prince Charles has tested positive for the Covid-19. The heir to the British throne had, in recent weeks, taken precautions in an attempt to limit his contact with the contagion, including adopting a steepled-finger greeting, but it appears to not be enough. Now officials and staff connected to the Royal Family are rushing to establish a timeline concerning his contraction of the virus, and the extent of his exposure to other high ranking officials, namely his mother, the 93 year old Queen Elizabeth II and his 98 year old father, Prince Philip. The Prince last saw her on March 12th, shortly before the Queen ensconced herself in Windsor Castle to self-isolate. Charles, 71, is already in the age group that is at most fatal risk from the virus, but is said to only be suffering from "mild" symptoms. His wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, tested negative. All of this comes on the heels of Britain in a state of upheaval, with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposing strict restrictions on movement in order to control the spread of the virus. 12. According to a document obtained by Politico, William Barr, Attorney General of the United States, has quietly asked Congress for the power to detain (alleged) criminals and hold them without trial during the duration of the Corvid-19 crisis. According to the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution every citizen of the United States is entitled to a trial, a trial by jury, a fast and speedy trial and due process under the law. The only body with any legal basis to allow such a thing is the United States Congress. The suspension of Habeas Corpus is not unheard of in American History, Presidents Lincoln, Grant and Roosevelt (FDR) all pushed for and achieved the feat during the Civil War, Reconstruction and World War II. However, the prospect of the Department of Justice being given this power is unlikely to pass. It would need to get past both houses of Congress, and with it being dead on arrival in the Democratic House, with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reacting like this: It will likely meet the same fate in the United States Senate with Utah's Mike Lee (Republican) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer commenting with this: Every American who gives a shit is encouraged to call their representation in Congress and tell them how they feel about the prospect of their civil rights being taken away.
