In September 2000, just before “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)” became her third #1 hit, Christina Aguilera’s first headlining tour took her to the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. The opening act was Destiny’s Child, a group that’s been in this column a couple of times already. The night before the show, Christina’s tour bus was parked at a hotel near Syracuse University, where I was just starting my junior year. Apparently, a couple of college students got onto that tour bus and spent the evening partying with Christina’s crew. I don’t know how something like that happens, but

The chosen one. The princess who was promised. The child of destiny who was not in Destiny’s Child. It’s Britney, bitch. The rise of Britney Spears was a product of its moment. It came out of the convergence of certain trends and decisions and lucky breaks. But her arrival, smashing into public consciousness like a comet into the earth, felt inevitable at the time. Today, looking back, it feels just as inevitable — as though Britney Jean Spears could’ve been born anywhere, in any circumstance, and she still would’ve become one of the most famous people on the planet before reaching adulth

From a certain perspective, “Always Be My Baby” is one of the sweetest, prettiest, most effortless songs that’s come out of Mariah Carey’s long career. The song isn’t exactly Mariah working within her comfort zone. Instead, it’s her finding a new comfort zone, twirling her wildly virtuosic dip-divy vocal ululations around an easy lope of a hip-hop beat and just letting her voice flow. Much of Mariah’s early success had come from using that voice on relatively traditional adult-contempo ballads, but this kind of breezy midtempo jam was where she really excelled, and there’s joy in hearing her l

So, this is it. This is the moment that nobody's been waiting for. This is my review, my explanation, my confession, my revelation. I hate this album. I despise it. Why? This was the album that produced one of Mariah's more recent hit singles. "Touch My Body" hitting number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart was historic. It was difficult to get and not everybody can have that. But that's exactly the problem. There's nothing remarkable about this album other than adding another accolade on top of her already stacked accolades. It's really good to show numbers and stats, but when the mu

Finally I'm moving it here! Here's my first ever entry for the #TamaReviews series. Check it out! REVAMPED! “Bionic” is the title of Christina Aguilera’s sixth studio album—fifth counting only English language releases, fourth excluding the Spanish language and the holiday albums—which was released on June 4th-11th 2010, depended on your country. It is the follow-up to Aguilera’s previous album, “Back to Basics.” “Bionic” served as a reinvention of Aguilera’s music, pop persona, and overall career trajectory moving forward in time. Aguilera, known as one of the leading ladies

Opinion I Arranged a (Slightly) Better Tracklist for Bionic!
poSLAYtions posted a blog entry in My Thoughts.
Alright, so I'm still currently listening to Bionic because, of course, duh. I'm also in a good mood and somehow feeling a good vibration from nowhere. Anyway, so I only realized now that the transition from Prima Donna to Morning Dessert and Sex for Breakfast to Lift Me Up is one of the ugliest transitions ever in pop music. There's like no relation whatsoever from Prima Donna, which still depicted Xtina in a club and drinking her tenth booze for the night, to Xtina apparently rolling around the bed with somebody in the morning? What? You might argue with "oh, it does make sense because -
Blackout has perhaps become Britney’s most lauded album among fans and retrospective pop music critics. This is rather significant considering its relatively low impact at the time. The music had taken a backseat to Britney’s media attention and tabloid coverage. The critics were more concerned with her awkward pole-dancing in the “Gimme More” music video or her lip-synced fumbling performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The album remains a black sheep among her discography, which sees Britney completely embracing the underground genres of dark electro-pop, techno, and even dubstep (all of

I'm back, people. Not that you would care but Hey Hey Hey.mp3 This time, it's Witness time! REVAMPED! Katy Perry released her fifth studio album titled “Witness” on June 9th 2017 to a rather underwhelming reception from both the critics and general public. It was supposed to be a reintroduction slash reinvention of Perry’s music and public persona after the overwhelming success of her previous album, “PRISM”. Initially, Perry had introduced a concept which she termed as “purposeful pop” for the album and had stated that it would show the “real” her that had never be

By Adria Young Back in 2006, when Victoria song-bird Nelly Furtado released the heavily Timbaland-produced Loose, the media went fucking bananas over Furtado’s drastic thrust into hip-hop-styled sexuality, especially because the Internet of the mid-2000s resembles its current sad state: an open cesspool of garbage bags who piss-moan about anything that doesn’t conform to their fedora-capped views of women. When Loose’s second single “Promiscuous” started its 24-hour rotations across Canada, Furtado was immediately and notably one of the first Canadian artists to experience public slut-sh

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker – Review
LittleDudeNT5 posted a blog entry in LittleDude's Corner
I must have been around ten or eleven when I borrowed The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker from a family friend. It was the first Zelda I ever played. I wasn’t very good at video games at that age, and being that it wasn’t mine – and that I didn’t have a memory card for my GameCube – I never got past the first few levels of the game. That didn’t stop it from having a pretty big impression on me. It was my first glimpse into the expansive, thrilling, adventure-filled world of Zelda and I would go on to play many other games in the series – but I always wanted to go back to Wind Waker and play th -

~ Dairy of an Otaku ~ #3 My God, I just realized it's been 2 months since I posted in this Blog. Such a shame, I've been slacking Anime lately. But now, I'm back at it again and just wanted to mention I re-watched both seasons of Attack on Titan. Gave to stay strong to wait another year (if we're lucky) for some new material. But I loved the OVA's especially the one about Levi's backstory. Also finished the Attack on Titan Junior one today. Nothing too special, but it was amusing. So by saying this I want to make an overview of things I'll be watching ASAP and we'll see what I

-Apple Music- Okay, guys, here's the thing. I've been having an Apple Music subscription for a very long time, but I mostly spend it listening to (amazing) soundtracks. Like from the Studio Ghibli movies, Disney movies, even from amazing games like; Monument Valley & Journey and the list goes on. But I actually really want to get into some new -underdog- music and artists. So from now on this blog entry is open for any recommendations. I will start with taking on different albums. I think I'll pick about four albums for every week. And I'm open to all kind of recommendations!

Just Whitney...(2002):Track-by-Track Review Part 1
Brightflower posted a blog entry in A Blog of Divinity: Moonflower
The hate this album get is outrageous. i mean, personally, it ranks second after My Love is Your Love and is my favorite of all her albums. Maybe it was th time in her career it was released, but this is a good album, full of hidden gems and some of the best songs Whitney has ever recorded. One Of Those Days-9/10 When the first son g off an album sucks, it sets a bad taste to the listener, fan or not. But Whitney's first track was the case. One Of Those days is a song about hoping, needing a time of peace from all the stress of daily life and while for Whitney it was much big -
Mariah Carey’s 1997 album Butterfly is heralded as her greatest effort, and is certainly her most emotional and personal album. Within, fans find many favorites tracks that are often praised for exuding vulnerability. Songs like “Butterfly”, “Close My Eyes”, and “Outside” deal with topics ranging from her difficult upbringing to her recent split with husband and Sony CEO Tommy Mattola. But one song in particular seems to be praised to high heavens – enough so to be considered overrated by some fans. That song is “The Roof”, the fourth track on Butterfly. Even though Mariah thinks – quite obli
