Anyway...

@NoAngel is literally the queen of sales receipts. Although sales don't really matter in the long run. What really matters in regards to this topic how much impact they had WW and how much influence they had on younger artists.

Madonna's music catalogue has pretty much covered every subcategory and genre pop music can off, while Mariah stayed inside of her RnB box and relied on mostly balladish songs and singles. Madonna has taken risks and promoted herself through fashion, was a pioneer of the music video age and is a sex icon. She laid out the blueprint for artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and more to come. She was clearly a greater influence on artists who have a proper legacy to associate with themselves or the potential to have one.

Everytime Madonna appears on national TV two of her GH albums re-enter the iTunes Charts in more higher regions. The Immaculate Collection is THE most successful and best selling GH album ever and it doesn't focus on #1 singles only and it doesn't cover all of her top tens from that era. Even Celebration and it's lead single went on to be quite a huge success WW with 0 promotion. The song was even a bit relevant among the younger generation, outside of the US.

Madonna, the name is a brand itself. If you mention the name Madonna people have at least a few images to go with that name, at least one of her looks or her songs. Mariah Carey does not have that strong visual association with her brand. She is an RnB diva and that's it. She had a few #1s that are less remembered than Madonna's top ten singles.

anyone who is under the impression that Mariah is more commercially-successful than Madonna hasn't done their research.

Speaking of popularity, let's have a look to the Official Vevo views on Youtube to see who is the most popular in streaming:

Mariah: 1.264.390.256 views.

Whitney: 563.888.317 views.

Celine: 494.361.070 views.

Celine doesn't even have one certified video    xtina4

why only count Vevo, when YouTube's Music Insights section (https://www.youtube.com/yt/artists/insights.html) tells us exactly how many times all uploads of their videos have been viewed since September 2014?

Céline: 877,149,553

Mariah: 685,470,947

it would appear that Céline isn't struggling anywhere close to as much as you thought.  xtina4

All I Want For Christmas Is You > Madonna's catalog

In terms of classics

nah, it's seasonal (and not to mention, segmented to countries that celebrate Xmas). Hero and One Sweet Day were and still are bigger globally. even Without you is considerably bigger than All I Want     rav1

...and Madonna has Holiday. All year long. since 1983.      rav1

Because Mariah music will live forever since people who aspire to be singers will forever by inspired by her voice and her true remembered classics. Shitdonna was an attention whore who managed to last for decades until people who with lack of internet were too ignorant finally realized how tacky and talentless she is when we finally got talented popstars like Gaga (notice how ever since Gaga blew up Madonna has been FLOPPING in both albums and singles).

Madonna is also one of the worst human beings in history so yeah doesn't matter if she's global or not. Everyone hates her anyway now and literally no one cares about her suppossed legacy which consists of releasing soft pornography, attention seeking videos  and  horrible performances who were mostly lipped since she has no singing TALENT whatsoever.

Mariah has no classics, literally nobody in the real world cares about her watered down 90s hits except for All I Want For Christmas. If people cared about her forgotten hits they'd at least buy her recent greatest hits collection, but guess what, nobody CARED to do so. Meanwhile The Immaculate Collection and Celebration have been selling in the millions.

Every single one of the main pop girls have said that Madonna has been one of their main inspirations. Because Madonna was the one that changed the game, that always experimented with sound, her image and theatrics, the last truly groundbreaking female artist. Mariah did nothing other than having a great voice. Too bad that her lipped performances are ICONIC pop culture moments and remembered by everyone, while nobody gives a flying fuck about Mariah's boring performances and 5 octave range.

If everyone hated Madonna they wouldn't buy her $700 tour tickets in seconds. Meanwhile Mariah struggles to fill her tiny ass Vegas theater.
