I can't believe BTW is winning, let alone by so much. Yeah, it's a great album and one of my all time faves - probably in my top ten ever - but TFM is truly a gift from the musical gods. No flaws.

The Fame Monster did not age well. Yes, Bad Romance was revolutionary and iconic, Dance in the Dark was flawless for its time, and the album has its bops. But that's all there is to it. It lacks true substance and lasting power.

 

Born This Way managed to top every single song on The Fame Monster. Yes, Born This Way isn't perfect, but the diversity, passion, angst, and fear elevates it. It is edgy and weird and gross and contradictory and personal. It is flawed in a way that The Fame Monster can never be, and in that regard, I think it's her best work. Ha magnum opus! The Fame Monster is regarded as "pop music perfection," but it is boring and stale and barely had a good year's worth of life in it. I'll take TF, BTW, or ARTPOP any day.
