Is Mariah Carey a one hit wonder?

she doesn't have a 10m selling album in US jj2

her damn label overcertified her to hell and back jj2

BMG wasn't the only or biggest record club in the 1990's. Columbia House was the biggest record club in the 1990's. Mariah could have sold millions in the Columbia House record club, but we would never know because figures aren't available for them. There is also no such thing as 'over-shipped' because retailers pay labels for the amount of albums shipped and accepted by them. If labels could just ship as many records as they wanted and get paid for them, labels wouldn't be merging, because of financial problems. Having said that, Mariah's albums are not the only albums with such discrepancies, there are many albums with even bigger discrepancies than Music Boxand Daydream, but they still are not 'over-certified'. Here are a few examples:

- Jewel's Pieces Of You sold 9 million (600k more than Daydream) in Soundscan and BMG sales, yet it's certified 12x Platinum (2 million more than Daydream).

- Shania Twain's The Woman In Me sold 8.8 million copies (400k more than Daydream) in Soundscan sales and BMG record club sales, yet it's certified 12x Platinum (2 million more than Daydream)

- Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard sold 13.1 million copies in Soundscan and BMG sales and it's certified 17x Platinum.

- Hootie & The Blowfish's Cracked Rear View sold 11.4 million copies in Soundscan and BMG sales and it's certified 16x Platinum.

Just to be clear

7,655,191 Daydream
7,275,398 Music Box

Overcertification was a thing in 90s. Of course club sales were at its peak, but they were not that big.

Whitney is actually the one who should have 3 diamond albums: Bodyguard and Whitney Houston are diamond, but Whitney is at like 9m so it should be certified diamond jj2

Mariah Carey has had some impressive success in the 90s but unfortunately faded into irrelevancy after 2005. Looking back, there is really just one song in her discography that is well remembered by the public. That song is obviously the christmas smash "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and in fact I'm bopping to it right now demi1

Her other work is pretty much forgotten & since she won't get another hit we can safely call her a one hit wonder tbh. Will she be completely forgotten after Katy snatches her christmas wig this holiday?

When trolling just becomes stupid

There's dragging, and there's dragging yourself. I think you're doing the latter.
