If you guys find any post in this thread embarrassing or cringe worthy then the issue is within yourself. lj1

This thread is just as useless and dumb as any other BGs thread. It's just stupid entertainment. And isn't that the whole point of it? jj3

Besides, I wasn't being serious in like half of these posts and its honestly kind of annoying how you couldn't see that. eve1

the fact that ikag is riskier lyrically than anything gaga released tho

inb4 a monster comes up with the  BTW is about being yourself and empowers gay people SO ALIENATING AND AVANT GARDE excuse

I Kissed A Girl is toying with the heterosexual male's most commonly toyed with desire. Every trashy film has a "lesbian" kiss purely for its horny male teenage fans. It's not fucking "risky", it's trashy, overdone and a desperate attempt for sales, audience response and slight controversy.

To answer the OP question, JD and IKAG are both simple songs in their subject matter, lyrics and sound. This is deliberate, in that both Katy and Gaga were set up to be international sensations, and an easy to remember, simple and catchy tune is the best way to do so.Nothing Katy's written is "risky".

Judas is the definition of risky. It compares a romantic relationship to the most hated man in Christianity, and it was released on one of the most important days in the religion.

Born This Way is bordering on risky. Surely you understand the level of homophobia in the world, especially in several of the Middle East. A song that promotes being "gay, straight, bi, lesbian, transgender" AND claims "God made you this way" is offensive to MANY bigoted homophobic arseholes and as a result, had the song banned in several counties.

Even Bad Romance was risky in its lyrical content. It compare a relationship to several iconic Hitchcock horror/thriller films. The sonic structure in itself is risky - the verses are not "radio" at all, and really Gaga could have flopped hugely with that song, because despite the insanely catchy and what you would probably call "basic" chorus, it is not a conventional pop song.

Not to mention Aura, which for one is similar to BR in its strange lyrics and sonic structure. But it references a murder (that is a small controversy within the fan community - this isn't too risky however) and then it has the lyric "do you wanna see me naked lover?", paired later with "behind the burqa" which goes against another religion's entire view of women.

I'm not saying this makes Gaga a better musician, but it sure as hell makes her a risky one. And at least Gaga doesn't perpetuate constitutional homophobia...

tldr, how many successful pop songs with the same theme are as blunt as ikag? do you really think the majority of her demographic (the heterosexual males are a minority) and the GP are okay with it? do you really think the average family mother is happy listening a song as explicit as ikag on the radio? it generated controversy when it came out and she was a nobody lol

I really hope you're trolling, because if you're serious - you're deluded.

IKAG rides on lesbianism being risqué, confusing and being simply a phase. It perpetuates the constitutional homophobia and the offensive assumption that homosexuality is only a phase, or something that "feels so wrong". It's problematic.

It was controversial bc it was written to be as such, it's not because Katy had any profound moment, her management just wanted to sex up her image and make headlines. It's tacky, desperate and, in turn, homophobic.

Also, grow the fuck up, if you want to have an argument, actually READ people's thoughts. If I have to read through your lack of proper grammar, you can read through my opinion.

Sis...the plot of the video leaked. She wakes up pregnant after Dr. R(apist) Kelly "examined" her. sia4

Anyway, back in 2008 when I first heard Just Dance I literally thought it was just another one-hit-wonder song by some basic pop girl. I thought she was brunette and more ethnic based on just her voice. I literally had no idea she was this huge innovative art pop queen of the gays whatever kind of girl. The song was enjoyable but really nothing great or exciting for me back then. It was a mild success (at first) in Germany. Kind of a slow burner.

Katy on the other hand was instant. That song was a great debut. The perfect mix of controversy and commercial pop music. I imagined her to be more like P!nk until I saw the video. Then again, I really didn't expect her to have as much longevity either.

Comparing these two, Katy definitely had the less basic debut. The intention may have been gay-pandering but that already makes it less basic than a song about a dance party, regardless of it being genuine or not.

Now I was 11 in 2009 so I didn't care about anything related to pop culture but if she debuted now I would think the same. I also see Katy in the same way, I find OOTB to be kinda basic but she evolved a lot during the TD era. All the TD videos were top notch and anything but basic, and the music was fairly solid. Just goes to show you shouldn't judge who someone truly is as an artist by their debut. jj2

the fact that katy pretended to be a lesbian for like 2 seconds just to get a hit song while gaga has geniunely shown interest in women throughout her whole career and didnt abandon that theme after her first single was over confused1

"I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight"

"You're my experimental game
Just human nature"

just wanna leave this here. ny1

Further cementing that homosexuality is a choice in the minds of every ignorant homophobe that listens to that song eve1
