Carly Rae is as pop as they come, but Lorde switches between loving and hating pop like all the time (Royals' lyrics vs. the entirety of her second album). And Charli is... Well I don't know, I only know her from Fancy I'm afraid to say.

I see what you mean about Lorde but I still classify her as pop tbh? Even though Royals and her 2013 interviews kinda make her seem like a pop hating snob, her debut is still pop (Tennis Court, Buzzcut Season, Team) but it's just not bubblegum "let's dance and party all night" pop (if any of that makes sense rip4)

Charli is a pop legend though!

She speaks Korean? orly1

After a brief research it was actually jpop she was talking about and she actually recorded a Japanese version of her smash Boom Clap so seems like she has hidden talents we never knew about?

Did she really promise a kpop album? lmfao2 I know you hate Tove but I think a collab with Charli would be great, I mean look at the masterpiece she made with Lorde.

That photo made me realize how much I love all 3 of them, it's pure pop excellence. I'm gonna hang it on my wall next to my Beyoncé poster and pray to it <3

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2015/04/09/music/charli-xcx-hits-j-pop-groove/#.WiULzJ_di7M

Jpop - which actually has significant differences from kpop once you get more into that culture - but yes. I don't think many pop girls could really pull it off but she possibly would.

I think Tove needs someone to outbalance her ultra cringeworthy try-hard edgy way of songwriting and Lorde's immense talent and ability to sell even the more pretentious parts were just that. Would Charli do it, I'm not sure but her slightly obnoxious yet super fun character could maybe bring out whatever's good in Tove.

Yes, they're like the only pop girls worth following at the moment, cute that they like and support one another <3

Eh I'm sure she likes the royalties from Royals and as much as she posed as that one 2cool4u, outlandish girl on Pure Heroine, her music is still very much pop, just not something you'd usually hear on the radio. Also that dogshit Fancy is a really poor representation of Charli's music, have you ever heard Boom Clap? You might have, it was a bit of a hit.

@Vilppu omggg apparently 9 Charli tracks are registered on PPL Repertoire? including Backseat featuring Carly Rae Jepsen giveup1 idk how that site works, can it be faked? IF IT'S REAL OMG..........

I saw it on PC Music Updates on Twitter, I don't know how reliable they are but I feel like it's real?? Omg super excited for the Carly collab + Caroline Polachek (the mastermind behind No Angel who also has a solid discography of her own)? Ugh, she would just need to throw the non-Cupcakke guests out of I Got It and that would already be a trinity.

btw @Vilppu I've made a decision. I actually want to give kpop a chance. I've never listened to it and I'm open for something new. Who should I listen to? wendy1

Right? Dua Lipa tries to be as flawless as Charlordly but fails.

I remember hating her a little bit in 2013 when she gave all those cringey interviews dragging pop stars rip4 I'm glad she's over that now, I watched a bunch of her interviews from around Green Light's release and she's really fun and likable. I also really love how she doesn't give a fuck about how she looks when she performs? I mean she looks ridiculous on stage but it's cool that she just has fun and dances like nobody's watching.

This was my daily Lorde appreciation post, stay tuned for my 5-paragraph essay on my love for Carly Rae tomorrow <3

Charli is truly giving the gays everything they want this Christmas, we love an XCXmas.

OK, first important rule: never ask kpop stans for recommendations nn. They'll just end up promoting their faves with poor quality songs which aren't accessible for a newbie more often than not.

I usually just end up mentioning these 4 to test out the waters, they're fairly Western-friendly and depending on what you make out of them, we can work our way from there:

SHINee - View
EXO - Monster
Red Velvet - Dumb Dumb
Girls' Generation - Lion Heart

Honestly the only aspect in which Dua wins with Charli is looks, the former has a unique apperance and is just really beautiful. So yeah, she would make a great model and I wouldn't mind if she left singing for those more creative too.

Apart from a couple of songs on Pure Heroine, I wasn't interested in her in 2013 at all, as evidenced only for the better. I really liked her behaviour during her concert earlier this year btw, she interacted a lot and while you could definitely see she's a star now, she just gave off that specific aura, she was humble and seemed genuinely happy she could performing, it was adorable. On topic of her dancing, I'm glad she's a singer/songwriter in the first place but she clearly has fun with it and doesn't care so I'm fully supporting that too.

Yes, I listened to Cut to the Feeling earlier and it's incredible how she keeps churning out SOTYs from the album that's over two years old now.

Are you doing a year-end countdown? Please consider <3

dd I just had no idea where to start, I'll listen to those songs later and share my thoughts. I think I heard Dumb Dumb and a song about ice cream(?) before but I don't remember them rip4

tea she's gorgeous and New Rules is good, I'll give her that!

The wait between Lorde's albums is not the tea btw, I read somewhere that she could take like 10 years for her next album or something? rip4 I mean I doubt it would be that long but we probably won't be getting her next album this decade. Sky Ferreira teas.

ahhh I really want to see Carly and Lorde live, their shows seem like a lot of fun. I've only been to one concert (Beyoncé though so that's amazing) but I need to see more next year wendy4

I wonder if Carlegend is still doing that disco/ABBA inspired album? I read that before Side B came out so I don't know if it's still true, she might've totally changed direction rip4 She would be perfect with that sound though.

I've been planning it for a long time but I'm not sure if I want to now, I kinda hate the rest of this forum and only want to post in this section from now on. rip4 Are you doing one?

I know, it's just that I saw many poor souls on twitter/atrl posting about how they want to get into kpop and the sings that were recommended, lord rip4 yes, Ice Cream Cake is also a Red Velvet song, it's their best and in general one of my favourite kpop tracks.

I'm not particularly fond of New Rules but the Initial Talk remix goes off, it fixes all the original's issues.

I've recently heard something about her taking up to 5 years to try and make a self-produced (and maybe also self-written?) album. I respect that and will support her obviously but she's such a good team with the few people she's worked with that I don't really see it as necessary? It's not like she has to prove that she can make music on her own, we're all well aware.

I saw more concerts than your average fomo, I think, but not Beyonce yet unfortunately. And yeah, you should totally go whenever you can, it's such an incredible fun, often even for artists who are mediocre otherwise.

I read that too and I don't think I know her current direction? That would obviously be a treasure but I'm sure she'll deliver no matter which genre she chooses.

Make this your last thread/post outside Bey section then xoxo. I think I am, I've been doing it on ATRL since 2015 and I really like it tbh, it's amazing how you can make an entire thread about yourself ddd.

Oh, and on kpop/Carly, When I'm Alone by f(x) is also an Emotion reject. Given that and the fact that f(x) are - or were, really - among my fave groups, I'm twice as disappointed that it's so bland.

I know how you feel, I see a lot of "how do I get into Madonna/Kylie/Mariah" threads and the song/album suggestions sometimes make me sick.

It truly sucks being broke and not being able to get tickets to your fave's show, Fad was 45 minutes away from me on Friday but I couldn't go :( I don't think Carly is expensive though and my best friend stans her too so I'm gonna try to see Carlegend next time she comes to my shitty state <3

Spoiler

I feel like a grandpa but what's a fomo? rip4 I saw it on ATRL and I'm confusion. The only fomo I know is fear of missing out rip4

Tea, she's coming for AOTY 2018. Poor Beyoncé.

I'll consider it wendy1 Not sure if I would do albums, songs, or both. I think songs would be more exciting since I talk about my favorite albums on here all the time so the Melodrama + MASSEDUCTION reveal would be boring rip4

Ice Cream Cake is their best song AND best album. rav3

omfg we had over 1000 posts last week   I thought we were flopping   @Vilppu @Lord Stoneheart @Urbanov @Gabe. @Anna-wa @Nick Jonas ✅ @Jony @Royalty @TheFameMonster @brigitte.

The unofficial megarate result (including only people who I know of are true Queen Bey stans  ) looks so much better     @Vilppu @blankdreams @Anna-wa @BEYONCÉ @Urbanov @Gabe. @bxig.

I think we should focus on one song / video to nominate for the FOTP music awards to have a maximum chance of snatching a nomination   What do you think
