Sis war happened rip2

she had to replace it

I know she always says that, but I never bought that excuse. oprah8

The fact that American Life was not included in her last GH album nor in the music video DVD speaks volumes. Especially since it's been like years since the war. oprah12

I believe she was threatened to pull the video or else something was gonna happen to her career or something else. The truth will never be told but I just have a hunch that's the case. rav1

Singers protesting against a war is even MORE USEFUL during the war, cos that's when people have footage to witness for themselves and change their minds. Madonna wasn't trying to convince Bush to not go into war..... that was never gonna happen lbr.... the point of the video was that it's for the american PEOPLE, and she wanted THEM to feel that them blindly following Bush like dumb sheep was wrong. That effect could've happened during war too. People could've seen the other side of war and changed their minds. People could've protested in way larger numbers. And it could've also effected the 2004 elections.oprah2

I mean literally Britney was saying "We should trust the president" AKA there were popstars influencing this sheep mentality, so there SHOULD'VE BEEN POPSTARS TO BE THE ANTI-WAR movement. oprah13

It has to be included in all these shitty top 10 lists on YouTube. oprah13

They better play it when they give Madge her 2nd Video Vanguard award in honor of her legendary video collection. oprah13

The song is absolute garbage. Perhaps she made this extremely distasteful video so it could distract people from the song.

Thinking about all the veterans with PTSD this triggered and all the kids it scarred makes me feel disgusted. It was not ballsy, it was just stupid and irresponsible.

What part of my comment do you disagree with?

- Veterans that went to war need to check their PTSD at the door cos this video is focusing on the PTSD of war children that those veterans were sent to kill basically.

- The song slays Gaga's discography.

- The video, Gaga will never in a million years.

Video is literally made for people like you, you calling it 'distateful' when she was literally trying to show blinded people what was happening in real world, since they were so blinded by Bush and no one had balls to speak up against him at the time or they just didn't even care as long as they were good.

- Not going to argue with stupid

- Since you don't have ears...

"American Life" was met with generally negative reception from music critics. Sal Cinquemani from Slant Magazine labeled it a "trite, self-aggrandizing and often awkward song about privilege" and a "dour and robotic" track.[12] Stylus Magazine gave a negative review and said that when one of the world's richest women complains about commercialism and the emptiness of entertainment culture, it seems hypocritical rather than insightful. He also noted that in the song, she's raging against the life she herself is leading.[13]

Chuck Taylor of Billboard gave a negative review for the song, criticizing Madonna's rapping and calling the song "a blurry snarl of style and composition that's sounds more like a disjointed medley than a song."[14] Alexis Petridis from The Guardian was disappointed by the lyrics saying that "what on earth might her extreme point of view involve? That the world is ruled by a shadowy cabal of super-intelligent lizards?... Sadly not. Her extreme point of view turns out to be that money can't buy you happiness and that fame isn't all it's cracked up to be." He also panned the lyric "I like to express my extreme point of view", saying that it's difficult to hear that line without feeling a prickle of excitement.[15]

In 2004, Blender magazine listed the song at number nine on the list of the 50 Worst Songs Ever, stating that Madonna "updates the 'Material Girl'-era satire of commercialism and spiritual emptiness... with what is hands-down the most embarrassing rap ever recorded.

I hate to break it to you but she's not the only person in pop to make a political statement....

MJ has several videos among his discography that make massive political statements

April 1, 2003, Madonna pulled the video and released a statement explaining why: "I have decided not to release my new video. It was filmed before the war started and I do not believe it is appropriate to air it at this time. Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video."[32][36]

oh so she came to her senses and realized the vid was a terrible idea and didn't release it. It was pretty stupid making it in the first place but I'm glad she admitted she was wrong.

All irrelevant bullshit written by fat drunks that live in their mothers' basements that don't know what borders the US, let alone what an IRAQ is. They don't have good taste in music and that's why their reviews reek of middle school bullied pressed fat teen teas. rav1

If I wanted to listen fugly reviewers' opinions I'd log in to perezhilton.com. so no thanks. julia1

Who the fuck even has the right to judge fame being empty other than a Queen that has been in the spotlight since the 80's? Their reviews are as flawed and empty as the space between their ears. The message of the song was obviously lost in translation cos Apes don't speak English anywho. jj5

Yes! It's stupid to express your opinion or to have one. It's stupid to talk about real problems in life since dumb and self centered people don't care about that. It's stupid to raise awarness about what was happeing in world outside Us and music. It's stupid to stand up. I guess we should all support wars around the world and blindly believe in our honest politicians.

well, war is "just stupid and irresponsible" honey. the video is merely a depiction of that. it speaks the truth.

Not even Michael!     Just the fact that she made this video with this concept and having it done the EPIC way that she did, just that alone, shows how much she has a bigger dick t

Amazing video, but the fact that she replaced it invalidates the ballsy move
