Spotify in advanced talks to buy SoundCloud

Spotify is in advanced talks to acquire rival music service SoundCloud, according to a report by the Financial Times. An announcement of the acquisition could be made soon, according to the Times. The acquisition would come just months after SoundCloud launched its own paid streaming service.

The free version is used by millions and the company is valued at more than $700m.

Nah, it's mostly for artists who are just starting out, so they can get some buzz. A lot of them upload one-off singles on Soundcloud as free downloads for limited periods. It's a good platform to host things more accessibly than Spotify.
