There's no way Britney fans can sit here and say Blackout wasn't a flop era. In fact, to the general public Blackout was her biggest bomb era due to her public image and the disasterous VMA performance. 

Blackout was a big bomb by all means. I might let you get away with femme fatale since it actually spawned hit singles, but Blackout is up there with epic bombs like Glitter. If it wasn't such a setback for her they would've never rush released circus to course correct her career.

"Good album" excuse is all that pop fans have. Xtina can't release a successful album. Neither can Britney now. Gaga is already struggling again and doing worse than ARTPOP. God knows Madonna ain't pushing out successful pop music anymore.  

Pop music is dying. Rihanna is one of the only big-name girls slaying because she switches her sounds. R&B helps her as it does (temporarily) Beyoncé. Katy will also probably struggle doing pop when she releases next. Only her URBAN trap-song saved her last era.  

Pop music is dead. Our faves aren't appealing to younger generations. So I'll take the "good album excuse" cuz like I said, when the GP is letting trash like Cheerleader, Panda, Harlem Shake, etc smash, I don't trust their taste...

And that proves what?. Bionic and Lotus also belong to the top rank of epic flops . Pretty much all big names in the industry have had more than one flop. Britney, Xtina and Mariah won't have the success they had at their peak, but that's the same for everybody else. So be glad that Xtina has made lasting impact and has classic songs. In the long run that's all that matters. For the rest.

FF was released 1 year after Bionic and still outsold it. Both BJ and Glory had a top 20 single, something Xxl can't relate to since KGB in 2008  what's tragic here is that Britney had double the amount of eras yet she managed to outdo Crustina everytime overall (singles+album sales and touring)
