As "Joanne" bows atop the Billboard 200, Gaga is the top artist in the U.S.

Lady Gaga is the top musical act in the U.S., vaulting from No. 51 to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Nov. 12), as she leads the list for the first time.

The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 (which launched in July 2014) blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Lady Gaga soars to the Artist 100 summit, up by 937 percent in overall activity, as her new album Joanne, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 201,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 27, according to Nielsen Music, and Top Album Sales with 170,000 copies sold. Album sales account for 77 percent of her Artist 100 standing.

Gaga had previously peaked at No. 13 on the Artist 100 dated Oct. 1, when lead Joanne single "Perfect Illusion" debuted at its No. 15 Hot 100 highpoint. Before that, she'd reached No. 15 on the Artist 100 on Oct. 11, 2014, when her last album before JoanneTony Bennett collaborative album Cheek to Cheek, debuted atop the Billboard 200.

Notably, Gaga is the first woman to top the Artist 100 in eight months, since Adele topped the March 12 tally. Only five women have led the list since its inception: Taylor Swift, for a record 31 weeks, Adele (10), Ariana GrandeMeghan Trainor (two each) and now Gaga. (Eighteen males and eight duos or groups, all fronted by male vocalists, have topped the chart.)

Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Drakerebounds 4-2, Twenty One Pilots fall to No. 3 after four (nonconsecutive) weeks at No. 1 and two acts re-enter: Michael Buble at No. 4 and Pentatonix at No. 5, both on the strength of new albums. Buble (who bests his prior No. 17 peak) returns as his new LP, Nobody But Me, enters both the Billboard 200 (91,000) and Top Album Sales (85,000) at No. 2, while Pentatonix (which previously hit a No. 2 Artist 100 high) enters the album lists at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, with A Pentatonix Christmas (60,000; 52,000). The latter set also dashes onto the Holiday Albums chart at No. 1.
