Why is Kanye's meltdown being sympathized but 2007 Britney was bashed?

Girl don't try it with the race thing. It is hella ignorant. If maybe the media is making a turnaround trying to manipulate people into sympathizing, that is something else entirely but everyone in real life dislikes Kanye, like a lot.

I've seen a LOT of people make fun of Kanye, so I'm not sure why you think that. Also it has nothing to do with race or gender, switch the comparison over to the acting world and Amanda Bynes still gets sympathy whereas everybody's like "fuck that guy" when it comes to Shia LaBeouf at this point.

You might be onto something here. Almost everybody loved Britney, so when she fell from grace people went crazy. Almost everybody dislikes Kanye, perhaps people are being sympathetic because they feel guilty about it.

This is also plausible. But sympathy because he's black? Not likely at all. It's most likely due to the "Kardashian Kurse" media jokes about, yet another man driven mad by America's "royal family"

Britney's meltdown and the subsequent reaction to it was a turning point for how a lot of media outlets handled those types of situations.  Not to say that it's perfect and that indecent mockery doesn't still occur, but the general tone when dealing with topics of mental health has shifted a lot.  Also, Kanye's people seem to be pretty direct about the fact that he is dealing with mental illness, and that is a big piece in where the conversation is focused.

Kanye's meltdown doesn't seem as severe plus he is not as big as Britney was back then. i also agree with those saying his meltdown isn't necessarily being sympathized... people are being harsh on him on various outlets.

Kanye has been bashed for years. He's been making a fool of himself for more than a decade. It's more pity and it's just multiplied by how arrogant he is, Kim's robbery, his mom's death, and him having children.

This tbh. Kanye's breakdown has little to do with paparazzi pressure and lack of privacy due to media overexposure, which was a big cause of britney's breakdown. They both suffer from mental disorders but the circumstances and context around their breakdowns are completely different, resulting in different reactions.

She has her own group of followers and fans. These days being more popular on the internet than mainstream media can actually get you pretty far!

But with Britney's current state you shouldn't be talking, really. She was extremely privileged despite lacking talent. Her meltdown was the ultimate backfire. She never managed to be the same again bc after her meltdown she probably realized what a puppet she was. Sky is anything but a puppet. They tried to make her one but she declined and went her own route and has not getting label support since then.
