Blood Orange - Better Than Me (feat. Carly Rae Jepsen)

Album : Freetown Sound

When I first listened to this track I was like "yasss bitch drag ha"; I'm not one to particularily pay attention to the lyrics so my first thoughts were about the song being about Carly and Blood Orange trying to reveal themselves to their lover(s) - "but I know she's better than me" is particularily heartbreaking. So I went on genius.com to educate myself, feeling intrigued about the song altogether. It's about blackness and someone being more black, esentially thus the "better than me" theme this has going on.

I LOVE YOU, CARLY RAE.

Katy Perry - Rise

Album : This joint won't be on any Katy album, bitch. mad3

I love how DRAMATIC this wants to be so badly, I almost feel empowered and what not listening to it. I love when a song brings in the dirt, personally I envision Katy throwing darts at a Taylor picture while recording this track which explains why she often sounds pitchy and out of breath even in the studio. Well done, everyone.

Brandy Clark - Girl Next Door

Album : Big Day In A Small Town

Moving on from self-loathing and faux empowerment, we meet Brandy Clark at #73. She's telling us she's not a "girl next door" but the "perfect mess" which I'm sure all of us messy bottoms can idenfity with. Not many of you are into country music but this song has so much SASS the Nashville accent fades and it's just really good altogether. clap3

Tove Lo - Cool Girl

Album : Who cares, doesn't hold a candle to QOTC LADY WOOD.

Mhm. I'll start by saying this would nicely belong within the top tier of QOTC's absolute best but that's pretty much it. The beat is infectious, the theme is amazing (I love "Gone Girl" and the reference is amazing) but I just can't get drawn into supporting Tove anymore as her schtick is getting a bit too much too soon. We'll see.

71.

Wild Belle - Our Love Will Survive

Album : Dreamland

I'm not really sure what genre this fits under, I guess TUMBLR would be a nice classification as it looks and sounds like something Tumblr kids usually devour. It's good, catchy and deserves its ranking. Not sure how I came across this one though. jj4 Tried listening to Wild Belle's album but the girl's vocals got very tiring after a few plays. Kept this one and RAN.

Lady Wood was such a letdown for me. I can't help but dislike this song. noway1

Lady Gaga - Million Reasons

Album : Joanne

Hmmmm. I feel like Gaga's ballads are always nice enough for me to hit the "repeat" button but never GOOD enough to make me cry tears outta my ass. I deeply appreciate her raw vocals and delivery on this one, she was really THERE while recording it but I still feel like when it comes to ballads... she still hasn't hit her absolute best yet. We're gonna have to wait and see. mad5

i think i listened to the album maybe twice in order to understand what's going on there and i realised nothing was going on so .....

it's not bad but very average while QOTC was perfect song after perfect song after perfect song.

69.

JoJo - Vibe.

Album : Mad Love.

This song's bridge is what dreams are made of and turn this otherwise carefree bop into an absolute sensation. JoJo's return was one of the most anticipated events in music on my agenda and the good sis deeefinitely delivered. Vibe. sits on a joyful layer on the album's shelves but there's so much depth to Mad Love. that we'll definitely discuss once we reach the higher tiers of my countdown. jj5
