Maybe you should start following European media.

Last Saturday a major terrorist attack was prevented in last minute. Several suicide bombers apparently tried to attack a shopping mall in Essen,Germany at 16:30. But the plan leaked to security circles in the night to Saturday, so it was prevented.

What are good news outlet to get the tea? BBC? I follow The Hill / Vox for American news and it keeps me up to date.

Europe is hard for many Americans to follow because it involves several countries, and they each run differently, so understanding government policy / leaders is like reading ten new books.

But I would like to learn more about what's happening outside of America. I've only really encountered news in Jamaica and New Zealand from living there, and both are pretty tame (especially NZ) compared to the bigger countries.

I'd be cautious about being too overconfident on the travel ban's defeat.

By the time he can get it to the Supremes, he'll have his nominee on the bench dead2

It'll be even again - but that certainly doesn't mean anything, one way or the other.

God forbid Ginsburg dies in the interim, which is a real possiblity, then it'll be a conservative majority.

Omg Truman getting clocked for filth. Hope this happens with Trump in 2018.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_1946

In the 1946 election, the election resulted in Republicans picking up 55 seats to win majority control. Joseph William Martin, Jr., Republican of Massachusetts, became Speaker of the House, exchanging places with Sam Rayburn, Democrat of Texas, who became the new Minority Leader. The Democratic defeat was the largest since they were trounced in the 1928 pro-Republican wave that brought Herbert Hoover to power.

The vote was largely seen as a referendum on Truman, whose approval rating had sunk to 32 percent[2] over the president's controversial handling of a wave of post-war labor strikes, including a United Auto Workers strike against Ford and General Motors in 1945, a United Mine Workers strike starting in April 1946, and a national railroad worker strike that began in May. Further, the back-and-forth over whether to end unpopular wartime price controls to handle shortages, particularly in meat and other foodstuffs. While Truman's early months in the White House had been plagued with questions of "What would Roosevelt do if he were alive?" Republicans now began to joke "What would Truman do if he were alive?" and "To err is Truman."[3] The Republican majority was short-lived however, with Democrats winning control of the House two years later.

and then the tea two years later lmfao2

Truman had campaigned against a 'do-nothing' Republican Party Congress that had opposed his initiatives and was seen as counterproductive. The Democratic Party regained control of both the House and Senate in this election.[2][3][4] For Democrats, this was their largest gain since 1932.

I love how history repeats itself lmfao2 It'd be great for this to happen in 2018, but Democrats really need to move heaven and earth.

I'm just going to be petty for a moment... but is this the most hideous-looking administration from any country in the last 20-30 years? I swear to god, every single person looks like an extraterrestrial monster wearing a human skin, Conway being especially unconvincing with hers sagging on one side completely orly1

It's not quite the same dead2

The Republicans captured their overwhelming majorities in the Governorships and Statehouses in the 2010 Mid-Terms, which came around the time of the census and the redistricting process. That basically allowed them to redraw the map to give them a built in majority for the entirety of the 2010s. The majority might shrink, sure - but it would take a massive electoral revolt, the likes of which has never been seen at this level in twenty-five years, and it would need in places like Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Ohio,  Western Pennsylvania.

The last time a massive electoral shift happened, the 94' midterms, was because the Republicans were able to go into blue states and blue districts and pick off the weakest ones, the problem with replicating this feat is that the districts now - as I said before, have been redrawn to make it almost impossible of picking up that full number to wipe out the Republican majority. Maybe they'll take 10 at most - maybe 15 if the Republicans don't pick up enough Democrat seats to cancel those gains out.

And with the Republicans poised to make the state house gap wider and captured at least 35 or 36 of the Govenorships, if the Democrats lose in 2018, they Republicans are in the perfect position to repeat what they did in 2010.

The '46 and '18 midterms are like an apple and an orange.

And don't even get me started on the Senate, the Republicans have 50 safe seats and Mike Pence. And if they sweep the board, they'll end up with 60-61 seats.

I would say not to get my hopes up and focus on 2020, but I know that's not going to happen dead2

All I'll say is 2018 looks like it's going to be a bloodbath for the Democrats, and 2020 should look much, much better.

Generally I agree, the problem with politics though is that if you let it consume your life too much, you'll end up so tense and stressed out that you'll just snap

I'm moreso speaking on general terms (albeit the thread did influence post a lot) that a lot of people abstain from politics just because its "drama" filled, when the rights of individuals are literal

Absolutely not. You are foolish if you seriously believe that the "alt-right / neonazi" are just a bunch of violent crazies who want to exterminate all but the white race. This kind of ignorance (and
