Dirty Picture Pt. 2 is Kesha's Worst Song

Recommended Posts

Way With Words is worse. Invisible is worse. Styrofoam is worse. Boys Just Suck is worse. Fuck Fake Hippies is worse. This Is Me Breaking Up With You is worse.

In short, there are many songs that are worse.

It's cliché as hell and very lyrically poor. Not a good song in the slightest.

Cliché? I know she is capable of much more, but it's still pop music. Clichés are basically the makeup of most pop music. I find it entertaining because of its quirk and its rephrasing of the general "party hard, live while were young" lyrics she usually has.

As someone who writes pop music, I am well aware of the general structure of a pop song. Clichés are not a main course, but rather a spice to be applied with a steady hand. Styrofoam is saturated with clichés. It's not an interesting pop song and doesn't have any semblance of an original voice to me. She's not the first person to discuss the ideas presented within and unlike a lot of her other music, it doesn't express her thoughts either adroitly or comically enough to make it worth a listen.

I see your point. Which of her songs do you think have the best writing?

Hmmm...

Hallucination is very tightly constructed and plays with clichés while adding enough originality that it makes a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

The Harold Song is pretty straightforward metaphorically, but it does a great job at establishing a setting and a general tone for an experience.

As far as being subversive goes, Kiss 'n' Tell is hard to top. Calling a man a slut is a statement in itself.

Paper Airplane is a weird one, because the sentiments are kind of deep, despite it clearly being about a high school relationship. The juxtaposition makes it striking.

I think Blah Blah Blah has the same statement effect as Kiss N Tell. Thinking Of You, for the most part being the same song as Kiss N Tell has that effect too. In fact, the way she is so objective of men is a really positive cultural statement against censoring female sexuality in music.

I've always thought Cannibal and While You Were Sleeping were excellent.

Cannibal because of the semi-original metaphor, that is incorporated into a sort of morbid poetry.

While You Where Sleeping has great allusions to the theme. The way it's written makes it a really sad and emotional message wrapped in the packaging of a soft, light pop song. Almost like the Lily Allen-effect (I don't know how original that is brit5), to put a harsh reality into the lyrics, then parallel it with pretty sounding music.

Animal is also pretty impressive to me, considering the fact that it has many ways of interpreting it and can have different meanings when applied to different perspectives. For example, I read an interpretation of the song, saying that Animal was from the point of view of someone with a terminal illness, reflecting on their life and not wanting to die enveloped in sadness, instead to live and love. It also can be seen as having the same theme as Die Young. Animal also doesn't leave me with a cheesy feeling while or after listening to it. Although I would note that I'm not overly invested i the production when I listen to it.

Opinions are different but it's one of my favourites from
Animal + Cannibal (Deluxe Edition).

It's a perfect club banger with a great beat and a bit of melachony that works perfectly. It's one of the best collaborations of 2010. Where is Taio Cruz now btw?
