Fictional character deaths that wrecked you

We already have a thread about celebrity deaths and movies that made people cry, but what about fictional characters? I'm putting my answer under a spoiler cut and I advise anyone else who wants to share to do the same.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - When Buffy died in the season five finale, I felt sick and I couldn't believe they actually went there. She's one of my greatest heroes and role models, and she was just...gone. She had gotten into so many life-or-death situations up until that point and always managed to make it out, and then she finally came across one that was bigger than her. I know she eventually got resurrected, but the futility and hopelessness of watching that scene the first time is something that will never be lost on me. She died selflessly sacrificing her life to save the world (specifically her younger sister), and even though I hated that it had to happen, the way it did made so much sense and was perfect for her character. Her speech to Dawn as her friends cry over her body and her epitaph is shown is heartbreaking. Like Buffy, I have a younger sister and she annoys the hell out of me sometimes too, but in the same situation I would jump into that portal without a moment of hesitation. I know everyone says the episode where Joyce dies is the saddest one,  but this hit me even harder.

Harry Potter - There are way too many, and not one in particular stands out. Cedric easily could have been a jerk to Harry as the older and cooler Triwizard champion, but he was gentle and friendly instead so it was a cruel twist of fate for him to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It always makes me sad that Harry never got to have the life he wanted with Sirius, and how he never got to ask Dumbledore so many important things while he was still alive. Much like Cedric, Hedwig, Dobby, and Fred were also innocent bystanders and their deaths could easily have been avoided. And I'm a Snape apologist, so I would have to say his is far up the list too. I know he may have been a creepy stalker to Lily, but he had such a sad life that I couldn't help but sympathize with him.

Doctor Who - When Amy considers blinking in front of the Weeping Angel so she can be with Rory again, and the Doctor is begging her not to while River eggs her on so her parents can reunite. Then Amy turns to him and says goodbye, the Weeping Angel touches her, and her name instantly shows up on the tombstone and the Doctor breaks down in front of it. It didn't help that immediately afterwards, she narrated a posthumous letter asking the Doctor to visit her childhood self and tell her about their future adventures. This episode was just emotional overkill for me.

Star Wars - There were plenty of sad deaths for sure, but none from any characters who deeply resonated with me. This is definitely going to change when they write in Leia's death.

One of my friends was a Gleek when this happened and it was so surreal. I actually remember sending her a "sorry for your loss" type text, because she was so into the show and the cast that she felt like she had personally lost a friend.

Also Dumbledore, but from HP I was most sad for Dobby and Hedwig. Hedwig saved her best friend so selflessly and everyone dismisses her death as a  but y'all  it's just not right

I'm re-reading Deathly Hallows right now, and I'm actually shocked at how fast everyone moved on like nothing happened. It's so unfair, Hedwig was Harry's only bridge between the wizarding world while he lived with the Dursleys and she got paid DUST after her death. I know the chapter title is "Fallen Warrior" and it refers to Mad-Eye Moody, but in my mind it's dedicated to Hedwig. That was the moment when shit got real, you realized no one was safe in the last book, and Harry's childhood was officially over. In the movie she died shielding him too

I felt like that too. It was so emotional tbh. Especially since he was dating his love interest on the show in real life, so all the emotions on the show were real.

OHedwig's death was so quick, I didn't even have time to process it, but yeah It's very sad to think about it now.

Do you have any specific problem with animals dying in movies? I know a lot of other people do and it's not something I generally take particular issue with, but I was watching the remake of Willard last night and although I didn't really find it upsetting, I did think it was a little weird that they introduced a cat in one scene

Same. I caught the ending of Chamber of Secrets on Freeform today, and even though he had a happy ending in that film I still thought about what happened later on and I shed a few tears.

I'm so glad that heffa Bellatrix is burning in hell forever for what she did to Dobby, Sirius, and Neville's parents
