Kesha is still under Dr. Luke's control

Recommended Posts

Editor's note: A spokesperson for Dr. Luke provided the following statement: "There was no change in Kesha's contractual recording obligations -- she has not succeeded on any legal claim or motion to avoid them. Instead, she was always free to record and refused to. Now, as legally required all along, the album was released with Dr. Luke's approval by Kemosabe which is a joint venture label of Dr. Luke and Sony."]

I suspected this would be the case. Just shows how much she loves what she does. Must be painful knowing that a song you poured your heart and soul into is lining the pockets of a wanker.

So how many albums does she have to put out until she's free from her current contract? She can't be tied to him forever surely?

Luke's deals are known to be ruthless so it's quite possible she could be.

He probably has no say in her material but still pockets the cheques. And he is probably desperate for her to drop music at this point seeing as he hasn't had much fresh income dead1

Well as long as she has no contact with him then I imagine she will be much happier this way. Obviously the ideal situation would be complete cut of ties, but it's a lot better than her previous situation and she seems much happier

I heard he has no say-so at Sony anymore, so if that's true she should just release two more albums (unless Cannibal doesn't count) as quickly as possible to get out of the contract. Doesn't it expire in a few years anyway?

Everybody should still support this record so she can hopefully go on tour and get some real coinsclap3

Cannibal doesn't count as it's an extended play. Animal, Warrior and Rainbow all do though.

This was kind of expected to be the case, unfortunate as it may be. She's under contract for two more albums after Rainbow. The good news is he's been cut out of decision-making completely, even if he is making royalties. That said, a) royalties are a pittance, b) she's back to doing what she loves while he's a public enemy, and c) the music she's making is a giant "fuck you" to him in so many ways. At the end of the day, she still won in a lot more ways than anyone anticipated.
