Which Unreleased Songs are Pre-Animal Sessions?

Recommended Posts

Animal was recorded between 2008 and 2009 and I would imagine preparations and rough demos were mostly created between 2007 and 2008.

The earliest confirmed writing of a released/leaked Animal session song is Stephan which I believe Kesha said she wrote at 14, which would've been around 2001.

I'd defiantly consider these all pre-Animal sessions.

Obviously the 2004 and 2005(?) demo CDs.

This is interesting interesting1

Stephen she wrote at 15 (according to Wiki)

And I know Dirty Liar she was 17

And Invisible was 2006 or before

And Vampire she didn't write I think, it says Pebe wrote that in 1985 and she covered it for a demo

but this would be interesting to piece together

I want the dates so I can sort my unreleased collection into discs kesha4

I'm also a biggest fucking fan, so this knowledge is obviously very intriguing kesha4

I'd say anything created before she signed to Luke at 18 is pre-Animal. That's fair right? kesha4

Yeah, she signed in 2005 so anything before than is definitely pre-Animal.

You think you've heard it all, but there are always songs that you still don't know

Can we work out the time frames of the songs' creations based the producers who worked on each song?

When I had the unreleased collection back in 2012, I organised them by the year of when they leaked since I don’t know the songs’ real year of production. Now, I don’t have them and I’m collecting them (again), I left the Year in the metadata blank.

Sorry for bringing back this old post but I love discussing the unreleased content; it's always so fascinating to me.

The thing with Kesha's unreleased stuff is that I do not think that many of them actually were ever considered for Animal inclusion, at least the album we've got in 2010. But who knows how many versions and tracklist that album had over the years. The pop-rock or country-ish stuff are most likely older demos. Some of the Michele Vice-Maslin work or the better produced Lagan co-written songs from that period might be more new, but I do not believe that tracks such as Friday Night Bith Fight, Amnesia or Former Over-Exposed Blonde for instance, were ever a part of any Animal tracklist. Here's a list what I think she started working on from 2006/2007 onwards:

Ash Howes & Marrin Harrington sessions:

Bad Dream
Hallucination
Feels Like Rain (Kara DioGuardi co-write)

Laze & Royal sessions:

Not My Daddy - sold
Let Me Go
Leave It Alone

There's quite a few tracks she did with Busbee or Evan Bogart but I strongly believe that she was just hired as a demo sessions singer and pehaps a songwriter for some of them because with many, she had no hand in writing them. It's not coincidental that most of these songs are in hands of other artists by now... I do believe she shared some of these on myspace back in the day though, so maybe they were *hers* at some point. I remember some random late 2009 interview where somebody asked if Butterscotch will be on the album to which she replied with "Maybe..." or something along those lines. If somebody has a link to that interview, I'd appreciate your help if you could send a link. But anyway, here are the tracks they've worked on:

31 Seconds Alone - sold
Butterscotch - sold
Chain Reaction - sold
Run Devil Run - sold
Boom Boom Bang
Heart Fall Out
N-N-N Neva Baby
Tease Me
Paper Airplane
Save Me
Strange Love
Get In Line

I'm not sure if any of the other songs were sold to any other artist, but let me know in case they have.

The Toby Gad demos were definitely recorded around 2006-2007 since This Love was recorded and released by The Veroncicas in late 2007. Here is the list of what they've done together:

This Love - sold
Mr Watson
Lucky
Boys
Heart's On Fire
While You Were Sleeping
Who Do You Love

The songs kinda do have a bit of a dated sound, for instance compared to some of the Animal stuff, so I do not believe they were recorded post-2007 at all.

I hate the same theory for the Ted Bruner tracks and considering True Love *might* include Katy Perry vocals in the background, it would make a perfect sense being released around that period, when they still were hanging out with each other. Here's the list of the Ted Bruner work with Kesha:

Aliens Invading
True Love
Frenzy
Lost Weekend

The Greg Wells demos, possibly from the same period as well:

Breaking Up With You
Trashy Boy (Kara DioGuardi co-write)

David Gamson did the following songs:

Boy Like You - sold
My Best Friend's Boyfriend
Radio Radio Radio
Do You Wanna Know

I have no idea when they could've been recorded since as far as I remember Backstabber made its way to the web in early 2008 already and it is one of his compositions that made the final cut. It was also meant to be the first single. Maybe the other tracks do come from some early Animal sessions. One thing we know for sure is that only his and Tom Neville work made its way onto the album from the earlier collaborators.

Speaking of Tom Neville, he did American Fool, Lovers In The Deep End plus the demo version of Radio Radio Radio - I think his work sound the freshest, especially if you make a playlist of VIP, Boots & Boys, FHHADJ, American Fool & LITDE. Honestly, they're the only ones that I think sound like they belong to Animal.

Then there's Tom Meredith songs which I have no idea where to put because they were often descried as Cannibal cast-offs or demos from the next studio album, I think that conclusion came out because they were leaked in early 2011(?).

He did Disgusting though which Kesha said at some point was meant to be on Animal so I'm guessing the other tracks are from the same time too - they sound a bit different in comparison though, don't you think? More 80s new wave influence for sure, but that was her thing back then.

Disgusting - sold
Starving
The Last Boyfriend
U Better Know

I think the Jimmy Harry demos were also for Animal. If I'm not mistaken, there was a talk about 7 AM inclusion on the Cannibal EP in a remixed form plus I'm pretty sure the demo was available on Jimmy's myspace page in 2008/2009, when she was working on the record.

The songs they've recorded together

7 AM
Mouth
Microphone

The rest which I do not know where to put:

I Wrote It Down - Sheppard Solomon production I think Kesha's just doing the vocals here and it was never her track since she doesn't have a writing credit

What The Hell (Is Wrong With Me) - it was put on the producer's soundcloud in 2010. Sounds kinda new but would not surprise me if it's one of the older demos.

Guilty Pleasure - co-written with Kasia Livingston

Hush Hush - Tim Myers & Michael Smith co-writes

A La Discotheque - unknown source

Booty Call - unknown source

Tell Me You Love Me - unknown source

I Taste Like A Cherry - unknown source

Let me know if I forgot to include anything or if you have any more info on the tracks from my post, especially the ones that we have no information about.

The producer is David Maurice, in december 2009 he sent her the "Demo Mix 1" version that eventually leaked in 2012, that's all I know about it

Amaazing!

I remember it leaked around the same time that Luke has put out that short Supernatural snippet/teaser on his soundcloud page. I could never tell from which era that song is as it belongs to the category with other unreleased oddities such as Dirty Liar or Vintage Kiss.

Probably. Both songs are Lagan co-writes so Dance Attack might have been just an idea that's somehow transformed into BWYNOI later on or vice versa

If anybody is interested, I've managed to contact one of Kesha's past producers (Cliff Goldmacher) and this is the information that I've got regarding some of her older tracks:

Quote
I wrote “Baby, It’s You”  and “I’m The One” with my friend Jimmy Santis and we hired Kesha to sing the demos but Kesha and I didn’t write those.

Good To Be Queen was written on April 29th, 2004 with Kesha
Boys Just Suck was written on May 23, 2005 with Kesha and her mother Pebe.

It pretty much answers that most of the country/rock influenced stuff she did probably come from 2003, 2004 & 2005 before she signed the initial contract with Dr Luke.
