My thoughts on the subject. Well I didn't know a lot of the stuff posted so I thank @Beaux for educating us all on this info. I love Madonna and she's done so much good in her career for the disenfranchised including African Americans and Africans among other great things she's done like philanthropy and her adopting the kids. But a lot of what she said/did is problematic and very insensitive.

The point about her Rebel Heart promo by using the strong historic figures like Martin Luther King and co. well I feel a certain way about it. I agree with the fact that one can use respected figures in history who have gone though a phase of rebellion against their societies in order to emerge victorious and either create a revolution or invent something that never existed or inspire other to be better people or sacrifice themselves for a cause, etc. So I agreed with her saying that she's a rebel heart like Martin was a rebel heart.  aretha1

However,

The fact that it was to promote an album was a little cheesy. But the fact that it's to promote an album that wasn't about a revolution or talked about social issues or spoke about anything relating to the actions of the figures she chose to use for the promo is the part that stings. The album, although was considered a good pop album and had multiple themes like heartbreak and how Madge ignored all nay-sayers and succeeded despite being shit on for years..... WAS A SELF-CENTERED ALBUM THAT ALSO CONTAINED TRACKS LIKE BITCH I'M MADONNA AND HOLY WATER, so the fact that she used those figures to promote such album is tasteless. Now had the album been a political album about social injustices or some of the issues that those figures experienced or songs that had history lessons within them then I'd stand by her usage of those images 10000%. But oh well. oprah14

The thing about her not realizing how black face would be so wrong to use on an album cover is disgusting and her wanting to call the album black Madonna was a pathetic excuse to get publicity. She does have racist tendencies but I think it's more of her letting her EGO get in the way of her admitting SHE WAS WRONG. I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong (just ask some members who got apology letters this week jj1) so it bugs me when I see UNAPOLOGETIC people about everything even when they know they're wrong. It shows how insecure the person is. My 2 cents. oprah14

I think everyone knows that I have a disliking to Bey as a person, but even I will admit that she is way closer to legendary status than most of my favs and basically the only one up for that level of respect from her generation. I  mean we have to give credit where credit is due. Although some points mentioned by @Sailor Mars in the thread I somewhat agreed with, the majority, I didn't. Living in denial only shows how pressed and biased we are about given subject/person just live in your truth and the truth will set you free. oprah14

Bey might not be a legend yet but it's only a matter of time and we all, haters and lovers of her, have to deal with it. oprah14

Let's be real tho. I mean 4real4real.mp3 it was a bit hypocritical. jj5

I love love love @Urbanov so much both as a person and a poster and I agree with some of his points about the subject, but I'm not fake to act like having this attitude isn't a little pot calling the kettle black-ish just cos is came from someone I respect and like. aretha1

Again, also agree with some of his points on the subject as in "well they perpetuate the usage by putting it in the songs, etc". But oh well. oprah14

I was raped. rav3

No I'd never laugh in the face of someone else while they're telling me their horrific story of something I've experienced and know the magnitude of the psychological effects it can have on a person having gone through it myself. oprah11

Madge sis, you're giving me Gagz faking being raped to promote a flop soundtrack song teas.. wendy4

These 2 threads both remind me of my exposing Gagz days. So exciting. rih1

oh wow, you're back. I haven't seen you in a long time rih1

Basically, I mean I know she is not and anyone with half a brain can see that she is not. So if some pressed ignorant losers call her that, I don't care.

I don't think she's racist. But she is definitely racially insensitive and generalizes whole groups of people negatively and stereotypes, u can't deny those. I mean u can but u would also be booked for an eye specialist right after. oprah14

Making racially ignorant comments makes her at least problematic but coming here and saying “racist or not she’s best selling female” is not a good look either you know

No honey. The black face, the comments about black men, black women, using the N word. Those are her being not only ignorant but EGOTISTICAL when told she's in the wrong and didn't want to admit or didn't see what was wrong. aretha1

Your accusation of her being a racist are just that, accusations. Her being the best selling female artist of all time is a FACT!   She could be the biggest  racist  if all time (you wish) but that doesn't change that Fact. Sorry

What black face? She never took a picture in black face. She wanted to call "Hard candy" the "black Madonna" but she changed  her mind cause like she said only %25 of the people  would get it and others will make stupid ignorant assumptions (aka this thread) so there. And I agree with what she said about black men. You can agree or disagree with her but that was her opinion. Not everything revolves around race.  Stop race baiting.

So let's see what kind of tea r u trying to sell here...

#1 Bullshit. She did not. It was a fan made Photoshop. In any case it is not racist to paint your face. Moreover, it is not racist to pay homage to the black Madonna

#2 She apologizes for that. In any case, clearly she did not used the N word with a negative connotation, because she directed that word towards her own son.

#3 She just confused Obama's religion, so? She was clearly happy to the idea of having a black Muslim as president. It would be a true achievement for US to have a Muslim president indeed. How someone who is happy to have a black Muslim president can be considered a racist?

#4 and #5 She changed her idea. She does not think those things anymore. You got to understand that she said those things, after receiving a letter from Tupac that left her devasteted, in which the legendary rapper broke up with her because:

Quote

“Can u understand that?” he wrote. “For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardise your career. If anything it would make you seem that much more open & exciting. But for me at least in my previous perception, I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.” -Tupac

#6 It was already said, but she did that Rebel Heart promotion using different pictures, both from white and black persons. Clearly it was not a racial thing. It was a very cool and intelligent promotion and that is why I'm using one of those picture as my profile.

#7  She is absolutely right. Women are the ones who suffer more discrimination. Not just in the US, but all over the world. Gay people, as long as they are males, will always be advantaged respect to women in our sexist society.

That's extremely ignorant

You know what else is ignorant? BELIEVING that Madonna adopted 4 black children or dated black men just to 'fix' her image nat1

Being a racist and choosing to live the rest of your life with 4 black children sounds stupid at least nat1
