Why is urban music more popular than pop in America?

American members here explain to me. Why the whole world loves bopping to catchy pop songs made in Sweden but the USA loves urban songs with no melodies and hooks ?

Because America is diverse so the music always goes through cycles. It’s true that Hip hop is the most popular genre now, but it was also really popular in the early 2000s. Then pop music made a comeback around 2008 and went into the early 2010s. Pop music will most likely be in again in a few years.

But on that note, Europe as a whole has really predictable and basic tastes in music. oprah14

Interesting too because it's always a cycle. Early mid 2000s charts were diverse. Britney, P!nk, Beyonce, and many more were doing welloprah14 One minute you can be bopping to Toxic or jamming to Hip hop like Ying yang twins or punk rock tay1. Very special time

Nah, she tried catering to America’s current taste by doing hip-hop song with no hook or melody and a rent-a-rapper but it didn’t go like planned ny1
