Why didn't Michael Jackson last as long as Madonna?

Recommended Posts

His 1995 History album underperformed to his standard.

His 2001 Invincible album was a complete flop. It sold less than Britney and NSync's albums despite costing 30 million to make and promote. The era only has 1 music video and hit single.

Why did Madonna have her Hung up in 2005 and  4 minutes in 2008 but Michael couldn't?  Michael is overrated commercially, George Michael and Phil Collins sold more than him in many countries. Michael didn't have any longevity at all.

Probably all the scandals hurt him

Second this. After the 80s/early 90s, scandals like molestation allegations really hurt his image, causing his brand to go downhill

Because he died?

the OP only compares the work of Madonna to his while MJ was still alive. they aren't asking why the longevity didn't last until now, because I believe that's fairly self-evident oprah14

I said it. So what? Where is Michael ''Hung up'' and ''4 Minutes''. His career last 16 years from 1979 to 1995 (pre-Off the wall doesn't count)  while Madonna has lasted for 36 years.

I'm sorry, but a 30+ year career isn't longevity?? He didn't debut in 1979, but 1969 with the Jackson 5, and released his first solo album in 1972, but you tried it.

ok but lets be real did madonna really last 36 years? Cause im pretty sure she's not still talked about by the gp or still on billboard hot 100(not that theres anything wrong with that) i hate when the delusional stans try to act like madonna is still a relevant factor in pop, she's not and hasn't been for well over a decade. She had her shine

Michael was born to be a star - a true performer who really really owns the stage, like you can't really compare him with Madonna. It's like comparing Aretha Franklin with Rihanna.

Cuz MJ was a fad. A one-hit wonder who got lucky with the release of Thriller and then he never managed to peak again. After thriller starts the inevitable fall of his career. MJ was not able to reivent his music and his image. In the '90s MJ was irrelevant and in the '00s he was forgotten. The pedophilia scandals was the best publicity he could wish for tbh. If it wasn't for the scandals nobody would have talk about him. MJ career is fucking boring and overrated and his career died wayyyyy before him. Looking back, MJ biggest contributions to the world was to popularize some dance moves. Madonna, on the other hand changed our culture forever and the way women in bussness are perceived. Madonna showed how to manage to stay on top of your game for more than 30 years. No other artist in history (male or female) managed to stay on the top of charts and on the newspapers headlines for so long. Even if we count the Jackson5, MJ did not last as long as Madonna.

Finally, Madonna changed the way a pop concert was made. The Blond Ambition tour is more iconic than any MJ tour. Furthermore any Madonna tour is original and artistic, while MJ tours are like Janet Jackson tours: the same '80s dance moves over and over again.

To sum up, Madonna's impact is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy bigger and MJ is a horse shit compared to Madonna. mad3

Imagine reading this instead of what the title says. The title asks why Madonna was selling more than him from the 90s - the time he died rav2

Yet Madonna had more successful tours rav2 And don't come with 'succes =/= talent', people wouldn't waste their money to see something basic rav2
