In the singles department, the number one song is rather a shock, but it's a well deserved achievement: Brendon Urie takes it with the #1 smash hit, "Dangerously", which sold a total of 1.9m copies, earns him a 3 x Platinum certification and makes the song the biggest this year in the UK. The singer is also bathing in certifications for all the singles released from his massive second album, "Misconceptions", as "Better Man" received the 2 x Platinum award and "Preacher", an Ariana Grande featured track, received the Platinum award. Coming up next it is the 3 x Platinum-certified Super Bowl Anthem, "Antidote", by none other than Mariah Carey, which is behind Urie with only 30k copies. Besides that, Carey's new single, "Treasure", was certified Platinum, after only 3 weeks of release, an impressive feat even for someone at Mariah's level of popularity.

Following are the two label mates, Lana Del Rey and Frank Ocean. Del Rey's smash hit lead single, "Running From Love", is officially a 3 x Platinum certified track and is, at the moment, one of the best selling songs of 2018 worldwide. The singer dominated the United Kingdom charts this year with her hit singles, "Rosa" and "By Tomorrow", the final from her Album of the Year-winning record, "Midnight". The former is currently certified Platinum, while the latter is doing just as great, with a 2 x Platinum award.  In the meantime, Frank Ocean's "Two Years", the second biggest song on radio this year, is the fourth biggest song in the UK, a spot it takes gracefully with the 3 x Platinum certified lead single off what is one of the most successful albums released by a male artist in a few years. A few thousand of sales is what makes the difference currently between "Two Years" and the 2 x Platinum "Be Someone", which is also part of the top 10 biggest tracks in the British territory this year.

Moving one spot below is yet another male artist: Maluma. We all can agree that this year we witnessed a rise in fame we haven't seen since Rihanna debuted her "NEO" album in 2016, and the numbers just solidify such statement. "Maniac (Like That)" has received a 2 x Platinum award and is 4k copies away from an update. If we'd like to knew when will his name appear on the chart again, we'd have to only look a few spots below and see the 2 x Platinum Global Smash, "Fuego", which features the singer's now-wife and mother of his child, Belinda. The collaboration would be the biggest in the United Kingdom this year, had it not been for Maluma's frenemy, Camila Cabello and her Frank Ocean collaboration, "Jealous", which outsold with over 80k copies and becomes the biggest in the territory this year. Although Cabello's only appearance in the top 20 is mostly collaborations (with "The Ride" sitting at #17 with a Platinum certification), her debut single, "BOY", has still managed to get a Platinum certification this year.

And speaking of enemies, friends and collaborators, who's perhaps one of the most controversial artists this year, Halsey, did not let the scandals ruin her "Party Monster" era, the follow-up to the AOTY-nominated "Children of the Moon". This fact is proven by the lead single off the aforementioned album being the 7th biggest single this year in the United Kingdom, with a 2 x Platinum certification under its belt. Other memorable mentions include the last three remaining 2 x Platinum certified tracks: Ariana Grande's fourth single off her self titled record, "Some Kind of Drug", which also features Maluma; Troye Sivan's comeback to music and top 3-peaking, "Playgirl"; last, but not least, a 'leftover' from her upcoming album, Lorde's acclaimed "Dancing in Paris", which also served as the lead (and only) single off her "M&Ms" extended play.

ALBUMS:

1    Maluma- Maniac    1,404,630
2    Frank Ocean- Connect    1,398,339

4    Camila Cabello- Mutually Detrimental    1,118,277

When it comes to albums, 2018 in the UK music was just as male-dominated, something that rarely happened before. First place is the 4 x Platinum-certified "Maniac", heading to 5, record-breaking debut album by Maluma. The singer managed to achieve what many tried to within a year and seems to be heading for more success than ever. Coming up next is yet another debut album, "Connect", which is behind Maluma with only 6k copies. Both albums have, so far, been battling for the top spot and, while the "Bad Habits" singer has been winning, he for sure had to work more so he keeps the top spot.

Up next is Maluma's label mate and yet another male artist, Brendon Urie, with his 4 x Platinum certified second album, "Misconceptions". Although the singer was winning with "Dangerously", it seems like he has a little bit of catch up to do before he can... well, top his competition (no gay sex reference intended). Moving on from the men, we are finally seeing two women inside the top 10, sitting at #4 and #5 with their 3 x Platinum certified album: Camila Cabello's debut "Mutually Detrimental" and Ariana Grande's self titled. Although the latter was released on late 2017 and the first was dropped after several cancellations and delays, that never stopped the singers from dominating the charts this year and slowly but surely climbing to the top.

Perhaps a surprising appearance on the chart is Charli XCX's second studio album "Thrills", which managed to earn a 2 x Platinum certification, despite getting considerably less promo than Charlotte's Grammy-winning debut, "Radiant". The album also managed to spawn two Platinum certified hit singles, "Kicks" and "Disguise", an impressive feat for an album that seemed to end up under-performing due to lack of apparent interest from the artist. As we're moving on, all the other entries are all just as surprising; and earned a 2 x Platinum certification in the UK. Seventh place, right behind Charli, is the rerelease of Beyonce's tenth studio album, "Pleasure", which was a surprising (but well-deserved) sleeper hit, preceded by the Platinum hit single, "Party for Fifty".

Although, just like in the case of his longtime friend and collaborator Charli, his album was not as promoted as his debut, Troye Sivan still shows up on the list at #8 with his second studio record, "Boys & Girls". Lana Del Rey's 2017 revolutionary "Midnight" album has managed to remain relevant in the United Kingdom even throughout 2018, with it sitting impressively at #9, solidifying her power in the British territory. Last but not least, what is perhaps the most astounding entry inside the top 10: Tinashe's debut album, "Rewind". After the lead single, "Anything", managed to become a bigger hit than expected, seeing her at the bottom of the top 10 biggest albums in UK is, at the same time, a surprise and something that should be normal.
