Diane Warren defends “Why Did You Do That”

Recommended Posts

I never got the idea the song was “intentionally bad” especialy watching the movie and how she took the fun pop songs as seriously as the rock songs jj4

Never understood that narrative.

Well, within the movie I do think it's supposed to be bad or at least crude. At that point I think the idea is that she's losing some focus and her music has really devolved. Cooper says as much in the next scene, although he's also a pretty big jerk in that scene so I guess it's arguable as to whether the audience is meant to agree with him at that point (obviously they aren't when he flat out insults her).

Anyway, Diane Warren is a pretty awful songwriter who can occasionally crank out a guilty pleasure like Can't Fight the Moonlight or something you can laugh at like that Aerosmith song from Armageddon, so whether or not she meant it to be bad is moot in my eyes sia2
