We are in Ariana’s peak but it’s still a lowkey non-event, why?

Girl

  1. 1. Y’all hear sumn?

    • She’s just not that girl that everyone says. Overrated, and she never really made a name for herself music wise. 14 year old fans only do so much, see BTS.
      1
    • Social media and such, artists are overexposed and information is too readily available. Back in the day artists had to hop on a plane and do press tours, making them inherently global.
      3
    • How is it a non event? VEVO record broken, Spotify record broken, multi week number one. Miss Grande is winning! Much bigger than any era EVER or song made by Christina Aguilera.

This is undeniably the bubblegum pop singers peak, much bigger than the forgotten My Everythang era which spawned some quick lil singles as the illiterate wife of cheating music mogul Jay Z would say bey8

However, why is this peak not as universal or global as other previous pop girl peaks, some peak i can remember from recent times are Emancipation, Dangerously in Love, Sasha Fierce, Teenage Dream, Red, The Fame, 21, 25, and 1989.

When I think of those eras I remember, nonstop play on radio, non stop talk in media, people old and young knowing the artist and their music, awards, records, Grammies. They were just events and inescapable. Meanwhile Ariana while being the biggest “pop girl” currently is still just a blip on the radar. This whole era feels very gimmicky, and lackluster. Why?

However, this era is bigger than any Christina era including her debut.

Why did the op fail to mention Play It Again, the smash debut EP from singer/songwriter Becky G?

The way you just appear in my threads seconds after I post and I was just thinking about you.

Also, Play it Again the single was my jam for a long time, let me play it.

She's no Mariah Carey, that's for sure.

Also can I add that the 'why are you so obsessed with me?' whole song based around mean girls was a much cuter and better done homage to mean girls. also the video was more original.

obsessed > thank u next

BUT i still love the thank u next video but mariah's was more original :)

The Emancipation of Mimi was the best-selling album of 2005 in the US, and the second-best seller worldwide, with global sales of 10 million copies.[4]

Because it was massive in the US. aretha1 It did good in the UK too, but that's about it, elsewhere it was a mediocre to an below average success. Compare non - US sales and it won't even be in the top 10.

6 million US, 4 million elsewhere.

Flopping in your home country is nothing to be proud of, see Confessions 1.7 million in US.

all the while making pure R&B music which is inherently local and less consumed WW, especially in Mariah’s biggest foreign market Asia.

It IS and event. Her songs are all over radio, she is breaking multiple streaming records and her private life is much talked about. Maybe why there won't be another pop era in the vein of Teenage Dream, The Fame Monster, 1989... is the lack of promotion artists do (because it's not necessary), so we feel like they are just throwing the music out there, because we are used to the old era promo cycle. Also, there are much less award shows and the ones that are still around are losing relevancy every year.

Just my two cents on it ari5

This it’s a good video, but it’s literally just the movie scenes lacks originality and is gimmicky and will be forgotten. Had she just used the movies as inspiration it could have been a extremely memorable and legendary video.

compared w/ Confessions' WW stats

Brazil – 80.000 / 140.000

Mexico – 30.000 / 150.000

Asia – 520.000 / 940.000

Oceania – 150.000 / 225.000

UK – 660.000 / 1.400.000

France – 185,000 / 950.000

Germany – 120,000 / 625.000

Italy – 40,000 / 475.000

Spain – 10,000 / 230.000

Sweden – 10,000 / 150.000

Netherlands – 35,000 / 175.000

Switzerland – 20,000 / 140.000

Austria – 10,000 / 60.000

~ Barely 2 million outside of North America, in 2005 that's not global, esp. given the fact that it was promoted to the heavens and back on an international scale.

Ah yes, the highly reputable Chartmastersallah strikes again, or perhaps UKmix.orgsus.

anyway, 4 is the most pirated album of all time, yet first week sales were 311,000.

Confessions was a lowkey non event too, i don’t remember hearing Hung Up ONCE. and that’s not even a lie, I even remember hearing CGYOOMH by Kylie.
