Thank U, Next - the soon x5 Platinum single that stayed in the top 10 for 4+ months moo6

But it was only going to be a "Quick hit" with the following singles being flops. fall9

Seems Agu is actually quite a useful counter predictor...

This is beyond winning, this is legendary, and dare I say, historic. The fact that the last and only time this happened was by The Beatles, and this is the FIRST time a SOLO act has done this, is something that can't be dismissed due to her streaming popularity or media prevalence. Ariana Grande is as popular as The Beatles were in their prime, just let that sentence sink in. Whatever you may think of her, she is that bitch, periodt, no tampon.

TUN is probably going to spend close to 20 weeks in the top 10, if not more, and hit 1B on Spotify easily. It also spent 8 weeks at #1 on the UWC and went #1 in most large countries. The mental gymnastics *some* people go through to discredit it just because it peaked in its first 10 weeks and didn’t take a year to go #1 rip2ny5

The delusion in this thread kii, little monster teas. Streaming is just now solidifying it's self into the music biz and Ari is the first female in line to truly experience it's inflation. Also please stop with the lame ass attempts at dismissing the fact she has no competition. Only Katy and Gaga put a couple songs out this past year  hottie1 If Taydolf had released last month with a song about whatever guy she just broke up with or died or whatever she would likely be getting these records herself. What a joke comparing legends/icons like the beatles to a popgirl of the week. um3

I assure you in the next couple years we'll be seeing tons of legendary records broken by "stream legends".

No one can compete with Taylor, though. Even Bey during Lemonade jay1 - how is that a point?

Because Taylor hasn't "broken" such records (Yet anyway), are we gonna say she's not that popular now? The point is aerolas are hyping Ari's obviously inflated success so hard and trying to put her up there with actual legends which is just embarrassing

No one's saying she's not that popular anymore (although Reputation's era was kinda messy besides Delicate ngl), just that Ariana is currently that bitch wendy1

No one said she's as big as those legends, we just presented you with facts she tied legendary acts such as The Beatles and Madonna's godly records. The way you chose to react to that piece of information is on you. katy1 Her stats are not inflated, do you even know what inflated means. ari9

3 songs on the billboard based on streams getting a record considered equal to people buying/playing 3 songs enough to get them in the top 3 spots is wrong, saying Ari's success is on par with the beatles is unreasonably high and inflated by definition katy1

Also notice how theres been a surge of records being broken over the past couple years ever since streaming started taking over katy1 no coincidence. You have to be delusional to think today's "milestones" compare to those ones. Again even meme songs can become hits nowadays and thank u next is basically a meme

By Drake, Taylor, and most recently and more frequently Ariana, who are all pillars in the music industry currently, so your point is? Also, of course pure sales are harder to get when everything is online, no one's discrediting The Beatles who actually held the top 5 simultaneously back in '64, it's just historic that Ariana did that, and set a precedent that had never been set before as a solo artist, male or female. The fact that no one has done that in 55 years, through the peak of pure sales and the surge in streaming in the past couple years (and I hear you saying that streaming is peaking, when in reality, it started reaching its prime 2 or so years ago), shows her power whether you like it or not. Just give credit where it's due and move on.

Stop pretending like purchasing a $0.49-0.79-0.99 single is much different than a $9.99 paid subscription. The vast majority of the world streams music instead of purchasing it nowadays, that's how it goes now, learn to deal and accept this reality and stop living in this phantom of a world where sales are still the defining medium. It's not black and white and you can play with that perception as much as you'd like, I can also twist that and say that at least with streaming we're completely convinced that a certain piece of music is being actively played by active communities - while you can purchase a song and only give it one listen just for the sake of supporting your fave artist, and with artists that have massive fan bases that can result in a tricky consensus. With streaming, on the other hand, we know that the songs are genuinely being actively played, all the time. katy1

Getting your song streamed a billion times on one streaming platform is just as impressive, if not more impressive, than selling 5m + copies in the digital era.

And brit9 You blame that on streaming, I credit the artists who were going to break those records regardless but just happen to be in the streaming age so their stats are reflected in streaming. Lol.

Like jesus, just from your own life experience - do you still know anyone who buys music?
