Disclaimers:

I cut out some songs I really like because making it ten tracks only made it more important to find a narrative arc for the album. I like the idea of it ending with celebratory upbeat numbers. 

 

Faz Gostoso is easily the best first single material here, but it’s a cover, so it never would fly. God Control is the obvious choice, therefore. I have a few reservations about the production, but it would have been a spellbinding way to begin the era, a true return of Politicsdonna. 

 

For the Medellin-led deluxe reissue, I’d also add I Rise (SANS EMMA!) and Come Alive, which I love.

I tried to make it a cohesive concept album, but it was kind of hard to make a theme. Dark Ballet is a no-brainer of an album opener but should never have been a single and I think Funana with a proper radio edit would be an amazing single (it always rung as extremely neurotic to me, with all the name drops). God Control really hammers home the theme of the album, and I cut I Rise because I just don’t like it very much- God Control is a much better message song.
