For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it.

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.

Sad and grossed out,

💔

Taylor

I have seriously had ENOUGH of this bitch playing the victim EVERY SINGLE TIME. Cooking up the Kim/Kanye feud AGAIN when SHE was the one who lied and manipulated EVERYONE into believing that Kanye made a diss track about her that she didn't know about. She did all that whilst receiving an award that she should have never gotten, applauding herself for her achievement when that moment was pure racism and white privilege in action. SHE was the bully in that very moment and she got checked for it! Then went on to play the victim again (of course).

This BITCH has done the absolute fucking most to tear down another woman, bully her, tarnish her image in front of the whole world because she hired some of her dancers. Making sure her album's release week got overshadowed by her releasing her music on Spotify (after dragging them for all these years). Now she's saying the ONE time she was exposed for her manipulative and fake ways, she is the bully? POOR FUCKING DAT!

Taylor, you've got to shut the fuck up, you calculated, opportunistic and gay-pandering-ass BITCH. This is exactly what YOU DESERVE and I'm loving EVERY. SECOND. OF. IT.

Most artists don't own their music. Not even Madonna does.

She's only mad that someone she doesn't like now owns her music. She's complaining about something that wasn't done as an act of malice towards her but she has to make it about her and drag others into her self-instigated drama.

Lets get it clear wendy1

  • Kanye ONLY told Taylor of the sex line, so it was completely reasonable for Taylor to be caught off-guard and offended by the following "I made that bitch famous" line
  • Kim recorded the phonecall illegally, knowing she could use it to harm Taylor in the future. That makes the idea of Kanye doing a good thing there invalid.
  • Taylor did not give permission for her image to be used sexually in the music video. PERIOD. It crossed several lines and was a violation.

Taylor bringing up this call anyway was 100% valid since she used it as an example of Scooter trying to ruin her. He managed Kanye, manages Bieber (who he had shading Taylor on IG after the call expose), now manages Demi (who had beef with Taylor in the past), etc. There is NO reason that Taylor's discography should be in his possession. NO reason whatsoever. And it clearly IS an act of malice, since Taylor was forced into a position of either signing back to the label and releasing more records in exchange to rights to her old ones, or the rights go to him. What's happening to Taylor is completely unfair.

So she was ok with the line about them having sex but she was upset when he called her a “bitch” (which is a term of endearment in rap btw)? What’s not clicking

And thankfully she did cause Taylor started the narrative of not having a phone call with Kanye at all, then bang - miss Kardashian West came forward with a receipt clap3

It was literally a fucking wax figure and she called it a “revenge porn” laughcry1 How sad

Since when is it illegal to record a phone call?

She's a public figure, her image is being used by many people and it was just a wax figure. She wasn't the only person in that video, besides that. It also wasn't a "porn video". orangu1 She's literally reaching with all of that. She knew about the content of that song and then went on to LIE and attempted to shade Kanye thinking they wouldn't pay her back.

EVERYBODY was laughing about Taylor cause she was exposed as liar. There are a lot of people with whom she had beef with cause she's literally a fucking manipulator and a bully. Remember the Bad Blood video? Remember all the shady stuff she wrote about her ex's or people who allegedly did her wrong and boy...that list is VERY long given that she has a HUGE victim complex.

He bought Big Machine as a whole. It was a good deal for him and he has every right to do it. Artists record music for their labels and the label will ALWAYS own a good portion of your music. That's how the music business works and she's a fool to believe it would work any other way.

She's so god damn pathetic and the way she's twisting the narrative is so transparent and really paints her as a damn narcissist.

She has been exposed for her lies and is now trying to discredit the person that exposed her. That is literally the same fucking thing Trump does and he is a certified narcissist. The whole Katy feud too...twisting the narrative to make Katy look like the bad guy and Katy never ever talked about it or mentioned it until Taylor started instigating shit with her. She's honestly such an annoyingly terrible person. Fucking unbearable.

"It’s okay to record conversations that take place in person or over the phone. In most states, only one party needs to give consent for recording. Eleven states require two-party consent. In other words, everyone involved in a conversation must agree to be recorded. Those states are, California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington."

How is "I made that bitch famous" a compliment? It was completely fair of Taylor to take that negatively, and as something that suggests he takes credit for career / wasn't sorry for the VMAs incident, ESPECIALLY since he made sure to exclude that lyric when asking her for permission to reference her.

I get it's fun to hate on Taylor and mock her recent childish sounding lyrics and sound but come on, if this were anyone else, especially your own faves, yall would be calling for Scooter and Scott's heads. It's quite ridiculous. I'm sure so much more has happened behind the scenes that Taylor didn't even mention in order to warrant such an emotional response from her. It's very unfair what is happening to her and no artist, whether you hate them or not, deserves it. Your OP wreaks of bitterness and hatred for a woman you have never and more than likely will never meet and it's quite sad. You need to calm down indeed.

Honestly no. She has done her very fair share of shameful things and I just won't be empathetic towards a person that has taken delight in bullying others and being a huge fucking hypocrite. She cries out loud every time something happens to her and loves to make a fuzz about it in a very grand scheme. If this happened to anyone else I would probably not react the way I did but I would stand behind what I said. It's a very normal thing for people to buy labels including the catalogue of artists those labels possess. She's bitter that it's someone who made fun of her after she tried to paint his client as the bad guy in front of the entire music industry when she was absolutely in the wrong.
