Lion King gets a 56 on Metacritic

It just goes without saying that you're not making a good film if that film is an animated feature's CGI knockoff with a money-hungry choice to cast Beyonce as the leading lady and center of two separate soundtrack releases, only happening to steal money from people with nostalgia issues; That's just as cheap and tasteless as publications only supporting gays during June, or toy companies making a market off of baby fetishization and text-speak

The difference is that ASIB was the fourth in a series of films that had little to do with eachother besides a plot structure, and all featured a famous leading lady brit15

These live-action films are just Disney trying to make a quick buck

white male critics not liking a movie with a diverse cast? color me astonished aura1

Someone saying that a white person's not allowed to have a negative opinion on a piece of media that involves black people as a faux-woke defense of said media? color me astonished aura1

Almost all of the criticisms are that the movie lacked any heart, originality, and said it felt hollow. Which is a very fair point with almost all of Disney’s recent remakes. Some of y’all really need to realize a movie can still be bad despite having a diverse cast. Especially when movies from this same studio had diverse casts in recent releases and they were received with a lot of praise. rip4

The race card being pulled for anything flopping is old and tiring. Like, get a grip of reality people.

What critic walks out of a movie screening and hates a movie cuz black people voiced CGI lions? Do you even listen to yourself? dead4

Nearly every Disney remake has been a cash grab - stealing dialogue WORD for WORD and barely diverging into “new territory” in the plot. They’re soulless, hollow shells of the originals pandering towards peoples’ nostalgia because they know nostalgia earns $$$ easier than an original, new IP.

Some of y’all need a common sense kick in the butt ellie1

The audience gave it an A score, and that's what matters at the end of the day-Hence why it made 185 million dollars in 2 days. Critics have been notorious for playing dirty based on actors they do not like. Big names like J.K Rowling and Angelina jolie will tell you they literally had to go incognito and change names for critics to come around. And if we have to listen to what critics have to say then I guess Hocus Pocus, Bohemian Rhapsody, Home Alone etc  were also awful movies.

They are awful movies dead4 They're enjoyable but still awful. Big difference.

Literally no one cares about the actors in this movie. The reviews are dominated by criticism regarding the screenplay and Favreau's directing. I'm sure not even the audience cares about Glover or Beyoncé voicing some lions lol. They're there to see the Mufasa death scene and cry, swing to Hakuna Matata and leave talking about 1994 jj2

Nearly all of these Disney remakes have had terrible reviews. So see the continuity and skip the overthinking. If a movie like Black Panther can slay critics, then race obviously has nothing to do with it brit4
