I would more so credit Céline Dion for the current rise of Vegas residencies, honestly. Her 2003 residency really launched this.

Then why weren't residencies popping up after she did it? You're telling me that a residency done in 2003 is responsible for all of these new ones? Britney made doing a residency popular bcuz it was so mediatized  and bcuz she wasn't so far into her career, she was still relatively young for a Vegas residency and showed that it wasn't a place only for old retired acts. ( as people thought)

It's no coincidence that after Britney was done there popped like 4 new residencies by different pop girls. Gaga and Xtina atleast wouldn't have done it without seeing how successful Britney's was.

Céline is responsible for “normalizing” Pop acts doing a Vegas residency. Casinos could only book 50’s, 60’s, 70’s pop vocal acts and magicians until Céline came along. She wanted to raise her family without touring and her manager/late-husband, Rene came up with a Vegas show to allow her to perform without touring. Not only did this change things for her, but for all artists and for Vegas. Vegas Casinos were now in the business of entertainment not just betting. Britney just did the same thing - she could raise her boys without touring. Britney would never have even signed a contract if Céline didn’t pave the way. The casinos wouldn’t have even bothered to approach her or any other pop girl if Céline didn’t make it such a huge success.

After Celine started her show, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Toni Braxton, Bette Midler, Cher, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain all had residencies. Britney paved the way for artists who appealed to the younger crowds that frequent nightclubs. Celine started the residency boom, while Britney extended its appeal.

Britney have may paved the way for younger pop stars but, without Céline, I can guarantee that Britney wouldn't have even had her residency show in the capacity that she did. Céline was being told she'd fail in Vegas and would be laughed it, yet it turned into a ten-year career. Many residencies popped up after "A New Day" launched, much like those mentioned above by @CharnyBoy. Céline proved it wasn't a place for "old retired acts" as you so age-istly put it. She proved popular artists could sustain a residency show. Caesars Palace built the colosseum for her specifically. That's power.

And that was my point. I didn't say that Celine didn't pave the way for Britney. Just that Britney made it popular and feasible for younger stars.
