BRIT Awards revamped for 2020 ceremony, three award categories cut

Organisers have streamlined the awards, both Best British Video and Best International Group have been cut, while the outstanding contribution award has been retired for 2020.

Although, despite reports to the contrary earlier this year, gendered awards for best male and best female will remain.

All awards will be decided by the 2020 Official Voting Academy, which consists of 1,200 artists, retailers, promoters, agents, publishers, labels, producers and media. Unlike in previous years, there will be no live vote on the night itself.

The Critics' Choice Award has been renamed Rising Star, while British Breakthrough Act will now be known as Best New Artist and Best British Single has been rechristened Song Of The Year.

The Rising Star Award will be open to British artists who have not yet achieved either a recording in the Official Charts UK Top 20 Artist Album Chart, or two recordings in the Top 20 Singles Chart.

Organisers have also vowed to give more control to the artists who perform, promising to "...hand the stage to the artists booked to perform on the night without imposing any creative limitations".

As well as this, the ceremony has moved to a Tuesday from its traditional slot on a Wednesday. This year's ceremony will take place on Tuesday 18th February at the O2 Arena.

It will be broadcast live on ITV.
