Some clarifications!

Song of the Year is awarded for a single or for one track from an album. This award goes to the songwriter who actually wrote the lyrics and/or melodies to the song. In CAL, there is a bigger emphasis on the lyrics of the song on this category.

Record of the Year is also awarded for a single or individual track, but the recipient of this award is the performing artist, the producer, recording engineer and/or mixer for that song. In CAL, there is a bigger emphasis on the entire package (Lyrics, instrumental, message, popularity, cover) of the song on this category. It's recommended to provide a summary on what the song has acheived commercially and/or through Metacritic reviews.

Album of the Year is awarded for a whole album, and the award is presented to the artist, producer, recording engineer, and mastering engineer for that album. In CAL, EPs will be eligible in this category as well.  It's recommended to provide a summary on what the album has acheived commercially and/or through Metacritic reviews.

-Best New Artist
-Song of the Year

-Record of the Year
-Album of the Year

# Follwing the rules from 2018 CAL Grammys, you are now only allowed to submit your release into ONE genre. What this means is that you can't submit one album into both Pop and Dance/Electronic or R&B. You have to choose ONE! Same goes for singles. Different songs/albums can still be nominated in different categories though. But one singular release (be it an album or single) can only be nominated in ONE genre subcategory.

# Only songs/albums that were released between Dec 14, 2018- Jan 2, 2020 are eligible. Tracks that were released before the eligibilty period but became singles during it are eligible.

# CAL Tube & Encore is available and will make the process of finding songs/albums/music videos much easier for you, as well as remind you moments you may have forgotten from the campaign. http://itikos.host10gb.com/

# Not all categories may make it. Depends on the amount of submissions.

# To find information regarding your song/album commercial success, you may visit Encore, CAL Tube and Kworb (Provided link for Kworb 4.0 and the new one Kworb 5.0 where you can find the entire overalls and Metacritic). If you wish to know your song/album regional sales, let me know and I will provide them to you. Kworb 5.0   Kworb 4.0

You have one week to post your submissions below (Until Jan 18th)After that, I will explain the process for the FYC campaigns.

  • Undoubtedly, Kylie Jenner has had a renaissance this year when it comes to her artistic persona. During 2017-mid2019 Kylie Jenner was seen nothing but a joke thanks to her previous management who kept making mistakes after mistakes with the singer's career and was digging her opportunity to shine as an artist deep. It wasn't until late 2019, that Republic Records would take hands on the matter, making a deal with Blood Entertainment to sign Kylie and they agreed, after that, Kylie's career has been growing very rapidly. She wen't from frustrated Rap singer to actual Pop star in no time with the general public seeing a more mature and down to earth Kylie once she got creative control over her career. That's when she released her critically acclaimed project, "Humanize EP" which got her a 74/100 on Metacritic and has slowly rebuild the image of the singer through the public's eyes. There's no denying that when it comes to a new artist that has been making waves, there's no one like Kylie.

  • Hilary Duff is one of the most promising brand new artists in the industry. She was signed back in 2016 by the same label Lily Allen was when she had a singing career, she could spawn the #3 peaking single "Codes" but suddenly after that, Hilary disappeared to take care of her song Luca. Flash-forward to 2019, Hilary's back! She released the first taste of her upcoming album, "Spellbound", in late 2019 with the track of the same title. It peaked at #24 on the CAL 100 and had over 22 million streams on Encore and this wasn't even an official lead single, as Republic Records wanted to test what could happen prior to the official beginning of the new era, showing how much people were eager to hear more about Duff. It wasn't until the release of her lead single, "Hurt Me", where Hilary got the media attention. A song about her ex-boyfriend, Shawn Mendes, which shows the rawness of her lyricism and the emotion in her music. "Hurt Me" is still growing on the charts, it has recently peaked at #17 on the CAL 100 but it's growing on every metric possible. The music video reached 2 million views in two days, it's at #2 on the Radio charts (the highest song for a new artist on the chart) and it's getting traction on Encore with it having over 15 million streams even though the song hasn't been on more than one playlist since the release, showing her growing power. She also is Brendon Urie's protégé, as he's working with her on her album "Spellbound", nothing better than a Best New Artist winner guiding a new one, right?

* = Mysterious Skin at the time of it's release was one of Shawn's most successful songs. The song debuted at #43, then the highest debut of Shawn's career. However, over the next several weeks, the song made it's climb all the way up to just outside of the top 10. The song was highlighted as one of the standouts from the album and even found itself included as a partial cover on Christina Aguilera's Freedom Festival setlist.

** = Secret has thus far become Shawn's biggest hit to date. Debuting at #10 on the Hot 100 as just as an album track, the song later reached it's peak of #2. The song spent 10 total weeks in the top 10 and has been certified 5x Platinum worldwide, selling 5,524,010 copies. The song is also Shawn's biggest hit on Encore with over 218 million streams. The song was highlighted as one of the standout tracks from the album.

For Your Consideration (FYC)

Now that you've submitted for the GRAMMYs - Now is your time to take part in the For Your Consideration process.

This will be managed and calculated by @Bleachella who did a great job last year in arranging this so he gets to do it again!

It will be divided to 3 factors, similar to last year:

Private - This is advertisement that is done through bookings and is held, well, privately. This includes holding concerts for academy members, sending packages to academy members, hosting listening parties for academy members, etc. This is anything that would not normally be included within the normal scope of promotion.

(If you are interested in booking private deals- contact @Bleachella)

Paid advertisement - This is advertisement that is paid, but done publicly. Commercials, ads in magazines, ads on CALTube, Magazine covers specifically for FYC, etc.

(If you are interested in booking paid advertisement- contact @Ronlop )

Regular promotion - These include tweets, regular promo, etc. Anything that targets FYC but is not paid for or booked falls under this category. Only tweets, regular promo that mention the GRAMMYs will count!

The First Official GoldDerby Update*

It's that time of year again little CALsters! Grammys season is here, and as per last year, that means the beginning of For Your Consideration! And like last year, Gold Derby will be tracking the most likely nominees for each category this year. We've ranked the nominees based on who is more likely to secure the nomination come nomination day on January 28th, from #1 being the most likely, to the last being the least likely.

Something special about this year though! Our Gold Derby team has secured a Grammy insider to see who they've nominated - and our initial predictions will be based off of that. So let's take a look and see what this year has in store for us!

Starting off with Record of the Year, the clear front-runner is the smash hit single, Forget Me. The 18x platinum single has established itself from the beginning as a likely contender for Record of the Year, and it's presence in this insider's nominees is no surprise. However, this category isn't without it's surprises! Hereditary (2019) pops up as well. While the 7x platinum single was a big hit, it emerged and peaked quite early in the eligibility period. However, perhaps the biggest surprise in these nominations was Kelly Clarkson's comeback single, Do You Still Think Of Me?. The platinum single is shaping up to be quite the hit - will a Record of the Year nomination further boost it's chances? Only time will tell!

Moving on to Song of the Year, again, the clear front runner is I Believe in Love (Song). Lana's previous Grammy success, as well as the massive acclaim of the single, can't be ignored, and it isn't surprising at all showing up on this list. Much like it's sister category however, Song of the Year does contain it's surprises. Namely, Smile by Kevin Abstract, Humanize by KYLIE, Hurt Me by Hilary Duff, and This Drink by Troye Sivan. With the exception of Troye, these are all relative newcomers to the music scene - so it'll be interesting to see if these insider nominations were simply a fluke, or a sign of what's to come on nomination day!

In Best New Artist, it stands to reason that this is Zendaya's year. The star, after several failed attempts at a successful era, has finally emerged with huge hits like BOHO, Bars Bars Bars, and Descending. It seems like it will finally be Zendaya's year to hear "It's time!". However, this hill doesn't come without its battles! We have newcomers KYLIE, Lady Gaga, Father John Misty, and Hilary Duff all looking to pull off potential upsets - and we think that KYLIE could possibly surprise in this category.

In Album of the Year, it looks like Lana Del Rey will go 3 for 3 with these nominations. Her mammoth album I Believe In Love is by far the best selling album released this eligibility period, and is also the most acclaimed, so seeing it on this insider's nominations is no surprise. Other clear frontrunners include Mirage and Truce, who both have shared critical acclaim as well as commercial success, albeit Mirage more than Truce. However, the last two slots are quite a surprise - Devotion and Cupido. The two albums came at the end of the eligibility period, and while Devotion has enjoyed it's share of commercial success with favourable reviews, Cupido hasn't enjoyed as much success but with much more acclaim. Notable misses are How Can I Fly Without Wings? and Atlantis, both of which are also possible contenders.

As far as the below the line categories, we do see quite a few surprises! Lana Del Rey was snubbed from both Best Music Video (for the VMA Winning I Believe In Love music video) as well as Best Album Campaign Visuals, two categories where she was expected to show up. Another big surprise is Zendaya being absent in every category except Best New Artist. However, other new artist faired much better - KYLIE and Lady Gaga picked up 5 solo nominations, and Hilary Duff, Kevin Abstract, and Father John Misty with 2 nominations.

Other notable surprises include Shawn Mendes being snubbed in every category except Best Alternative Song, especially with him being a likely contender for both Record and Song of the Year with his single Secret. Katy Perry's absence in Record of the Year for Catch Me In The Sun is another surprise, as well as Mariah Carey's absence in Song of the Year for Healing.

It's shaping up to be quite the interesting Grammys season! We've yet to see any For Your Consideration campaigning begin - but once it does, this list will be updated every day based on campaigns! Stay tuned for more.

* THESE ARE NOT THE NOMINATIONS. This is just the first FYC Update. It will be updated daily based on FYC Campaigns.
