Will she ever apologize for this?

Will Gaga ever be held accountable for this?

  1. 1. Will Gaga ever be held accountable for this?

    • Yes but only if it goes viral during Chromatica era like the R.Kelly mess during ASIB Oscar campaign
      2
    • No. She's a hypocritical fraud.

It's crazy she hasn't been collectively dragged for this yet. This is just as worse as the r.kelly collaboration and the fact that she pretends this never happened is truly disgusting.

Questionable

Blackface is intentionally meant to denigrate POC. Ganguro amounts to a simultaneous rejection of societal beauty standards and parody of white valley girl culture by Japanese fashion provocateurs. There's no question here: it's not blackface.

1) It literally translates to “black face”

2) no matter what’s the idea behind it - it’s still dumb (considering how relatively new it is)

3) blackface is blackface

1. There is no single accepted definition of "ganguro" that has a one-to-one English translation. "Dark tan" is another definition often used.

2. That's irrelevant to the discussion.

3. Blackface has to have intent in order to be harmful. Yes, the second picture is definitely gross, because those guys are 100% doing blackface with the intent of mocking POC.

Regardless of the intent behind it, or if you can call it "blackface" as a technical term, it was still a daft choice on her part (especially taking into consideration that you can usually tell apart that ganguro aesthetic but Gaga ignored key elements like the white eyeshadow and was just herself with dark skin) and she should've known better.

1) “black face” is still one of them

2) not really since it looks like a cute excuse for doing a blackface with “intention to not harm anybody”

3) I agree, it’s just horrendous

Quote

The word ganguro can be translated as "burn-black look", "dark tanning" or "black-face".[7]

Context matters. Gaga is not racist for having a ridiculous orange tan any more than the Jersey Shore cast is.

Her "tan" in that photoshoott isn't orange though. It's downright blackface.
