Why aren't the 00s stars considered legends yet?

Recommended Posts

So pretty much every can agree a lot of the big names of the 80s and 90s are bonafide legends. Madonna, Michael, Prince, Janet, Kylie, Whitney, Mariah, all of them are known in one way or another to be legends.

Why haven't the likes of Britney, Beyoncé, Christina, Pink, Shakira, Rihanna, Gaga, etc gotten that type of reputation yet? What do y'all think it is? Do you think they can get there?

Discuss.

Kylie is considered a legend? No shade, but she is the literal definition of local. brit15

Gaga went AC too quick and didn't have as much impact between 2012 and 2017.

P!nk is queen of the AC Karen Community.

Rihanna is a fashion icon.

Beyonce is a legend.

Britney is a Skinny legend.

Shakira is a legend.

Xtina is a legend.

Kylie is a national treasure in the UK.

Jessica Simpson is so global she's even a legend on Saturn's Rings.

Well the artist from those times have had many years pass since their primes so nostalgia and clear evidence of their impact on cultures and music of multiple genres is here to back the legendary claims up. They are up there with The Beatles, Elvis, Aretha etc.

But most of these newer girls are all still relatively young and still have a bit too go before they stop making music and have clear legacies set in stones unlike the the generation before them. Beside Beyonce- its clear she's a legend and both the critics and anyone in the GP with any current musical and cultural knowledge can confirm this.

Also lets be real most of the stars from the 00s ARE the legacies of those 80s acts and some (like Miss Christina as much as she is talented and has bops) arent really on that legendary level in terms of changing the game or adding anything that really stood the test of time.

She is, tho. dead4 One doesn't need to have WW international success to be considered a legend. Also, just because she never made it big in the US doesn't mean she's "local".

Aren't these artists legends already?

This. Most of them have already left their mark in music history. Just look at the good sis RiRi who employs the new pop girls to work for her  rih6

This too. Ms. Kylie is a legend/gay icon even if her music isn’t that popular with the GP. That’s why queen Adele gets drunk and bops to her music at bars  jj2

Beyonce is a legend.

Britney is kinda a legend, she was never taken too seriously to be considered one, but she's pop royalty, so...

Gaga and Rihanna will get there eventually.

Christina is not a legend yall rip4

Pink has been the most successful of her peers, but she just doesn't have that legend factor, I don't know rip4

Shakira idk, same as Pink.

She's big on FOTP for reasons I don't understand brit15

Anyway out of the list of legends in the OP, Kylie is the odd one out, nobody ever says they're inspired by Kylie nicki5

I feel like times have changed and I still try to figure out WHAT that means and what exactly changed. You still get your huge stars you could compare to like say the total success and crazy of The Beatles to say that One Direction or something along the lines of that was CLOSE....but it really doesn't seem to happen AS OFTEN.
