Hogwarts Legacy, a long-rumored Harry Potter RPG coming to PlayStation 5, was announced during today's PS5 showcase. Set in the late 1800s, a century before the events of the popular book series, Hogwarts Legacy will let players create their own student, attend class, and explore the Wizarding school and surrounding areas. The game is slated to release in 2021, published by Warner Bros. and developed by Portkey Games, which to date only has a couple of Harry Potter mobile games on their resume.

Murmurs of an open-world Harry Potter game surfaced earlier this year in a leak that now seem to have been proven accurate, down to the ability to create a Wizarding student and the late 19th century setting. A trailer was shown, showing off many different bits of gameplay, including potions and herbology classes, a look at the nearby town of Hogsmeade, flying a hippogrif, brief combat against a troll, among more.

The PS5 Showcase trailer narration mentions several times that the game will allow the player to shape the fate of Hogwarts, as evidenced by the title. The leaks, which stated that the game was planned to be shown at this year's canceled E3, describe a morality system that might be relevant to the themes of legacy. No release date beyond 2021 was given, nor specifics on other consoles, although in the unlikely case that Hogwarts Legacy was exclusive, it would have certainly been stated.

Love that part of the promotion, they constantly stated JK had no involvement in the creation of this dead2

She will still get part of the money from sells cuz of copyright no?

People are free to choose what to do with their money but maybe think twice before considering supporting a transphobe who's writing a book to spread that transphobia.

Yeah she still gets copyright checks because it’s her franchise and her idea.

well this game is officially licensed through Warner first so in a situation like that, the fee for the source creator is up front. if she gets anything from the actual sales, it'll be minimal at best but seeing as she's not been involved in development and this was coordinated through a third party (in this case Warner Bros) she's not likely to really get a piece of the pie. she's already made the money essentially. like for example the family of the creator of Batman (who normally takes in the money for the property along with DC) was paid a flat fee for the Arkham games but took almost none of the sales profit.
