Tommy compared Mariah to Michael Jackson multiple times but not to Madonna, why?

Well, thankfully Mariah didn't fall for Tommy's cheap tricks and lies the way MJ did. We all knew how that story ended.

What did he do to MJ btw?

Not trying to start anything, but let's not act like MJ was a saint and

Spoiler

child pornography books weren't found in his house.

Not quite, she said she could emulate that style of "Madonna-esque" voice that was popular at the time, although Madonna wasn't the only one with that style of nasal high voice at the time. Keep in mind this was in the mid 80s so Madonna although rising wasn't as big of a name as she is now, Mariah likely used her name as a reference point.

It's the same thing as Mariah being credited the one who popularized the pop/rap collabs. Madonna did that girlie voice popular.

I know, but i was just making the point that at the time she probably wasn't told to imitate Madonnas voice specifically but rather that style of voice, as i say you have to put things in to context this could've been as early as 1985/6 Madonna was already rising but it wasn't like she was the Blueprint, she was still developing the blueprint. That's why i was saying that Mariah is just using Madonnas name as a point of reference as Madonna is the one who primarily popularised it and is known for it, she's not going to name some random two hit wonder from 1984.

I'm not sure on the specifics with MJ but i believe it was down to Sony not wanting to promote his music and not giving him the artistic freedom he had previously. Mariah had a similar issue during Butterfly/Rainbow eras where Sony were reluctant to release The Roof, Breakdown, Can't Take That Away and Crybaby as official singles and promote them.

They... weren't? I mean...

Spoiler

I'm not going to pretend that he was a saint, but some lies were spread about him like the content of those books. They were actually pornography books of adults (women and men). There are some uncensored pics where you can see that. katy1

However, Sony boycotted MJ's Invincible album and, as long as I know, played dirty against Mariah too.

Maybe "pornography" is not the right term, but read the last two paragraph, the FBI found 2 books depicting "nude children" and the experts said from their training that those books are often "used as part of a grooming process". I'm not saying he's totally guilty, but totally innocent is hard to believe.

So that makes him the "devil"? I thought it was a bigger issue than that... There could be countless reasons why his album wasn't promoted as much. He was in his mid 40s back then and didn't his previous albums flop?

Madonna never had the dance skills or the singing abilities

She was average at everything but a genius at working the media, getting attention and creating controversies that sell

Singing skills? Debatable. But DANCING skills? The woman was a dance monster during her prime, tho.

I disagree. She was never a Janet Jackson or Britney in her prime dancing-wise. And she was never a Mariah or a Whitney in the vocal department. But she's a genius. And strong.

Her good music was selling, not the controversies. Her music is acclaimed, by far more acclaimed than Mariah by critics. Were the controversies the reason she got acclaim too?

Of course she was never a Janet or Britney cuz Madonna is more versatile as a dancer too. Do you know who Martha Graham is and what impact she has? Madonna studied dance at her school. Madonna is a professional dancer and was working as a backup dancer in other acts before she becomes famous.

My opinion remains.

Comparing Madonna's dancing to prime Britney or Janet? brit4

And if Madonna had all that dancing experience then it's even worst because it never showed to be honest.

Madonna is acclaimed but let's not try and sugarcoat the fact that her controversies played a big role in the success of her career.

She was a classically trained dancer and was accepted to the most prestigious dance programs. brit13

She doesn't come from Hip Hop (and that's where Britney and Janet come from) fast paced type of dancing, her thing is different - she's extremely athletic and has a more theatrical and "story telling" aspect to her choreographies. She rarely does the "look at me do this flashy dance move and hair flip now" break down moment. Her shows are about structure.

It may not look as flashy and eye grabbing but classical dance requires a lot of athleticism performed in a graceful manner - which is not an easy balance.

I've never been particularly impressed with her dancing or performing abilities. Her performances are never anything special choreography-wise. Her best is not up there with Janet, prime Britney, Nicole Scherzinger, Ciara, etc.
